Beautifully sung, went unreleased for a while... with the now haunting opening line "Father...stop...criticizing your son"

The early Nas demos are damnnn good. They never sold a CD of the '91 Nasty Nas mixtape? At least they're on youtube or wherever, and they're pretty great - Understanding, Another Day in the Projects, Back to the Grill, I'm a Villain, Deja Vu...

Extremely sad song - but fits for Father's Day - and here the original version sung by the guy who wrote it. It was quickly turned into a hit by Clarence Carter which probably helped it win the Grammy in '71........

This is one of those weird songs that I can't figure out if I like or not. Definitely needs to be listened to more than once...

Never heard this original version before..... I think I prefer it over the more well known Cash covers that he recorded a few months later, the album version def - I like Cash's acoustic take better than the album one where the arrangement around him is too much and he's laughing and snorting before we're even into the song (the original brings those laughs in a little later and it works more cleverly).

Film Socialism Don't know if I'm the only other Thug fan on here. Still think this is his best album by miles.

Jeffery would come in second for me, and then my other favorite project from him would actually be his collab with Future, which I was disappointed didn’t end up more popular. I rarely dislike any of his stuff though, there’s always some trace of spirit or weirdness in his songs that I don’t get from most other new hip-hop artists (although Keed is kind of promising - I liked Proud of Me, also with Thug, a lot).
