It seems like only two of them ever get talked about and honestly I never cared much about the whole Crash/Brokeback thing because I always thought Munich and Capote were much better.

Good Night, and Good Luck, with Munich a close second.

Crash because I'm a sucker for manipulative heartstring yanking.

Good Night, and Good Luck, with Munich a close second. I need to rewatch Good Night, and Good Luck. I only saw it once in theaters.

Munich followed by Brokeback.

here's how I'd rank them:
Brokeback Mountain - 10/10 (my personal favorite of the year)
Capote - 9/10 (Miller doesn't disappoint)
Good Night and Good Luck - 8/10 (very solid)
Munich - 6/10 (the preachiness really distracts from the realism / Bana was boring / has one of the worst and most baffling sex scenes I've ever seen)
Crash - Trash

Easily Brokeback Mountain, which is one of the true American masterpieces of the 2000s. I like Capote and Good Night, and Good Luck, but Munich starts off great and completely unravels by the end in typical modern Spielberg fashion, and Crash is legitimately the worst Best Picture winner I've ever seen.

Update:
So I tried watching Crash again. I hadn’t seen it since before it won BP and always kind of assumed there was a strong backlash because of its Oscar win and the Oscar followers large gay following being upset about it beating Brokeback Mountain.... I made it a half hour. It’s quite bad. Not just “unworthy of best picture bad” but BAD bad.

Brokeback is my favourite, but the 4 losers are all soooooooooooooooooooooo good. I remember when that Best Picture lineup was announced thinking "Wow, this is almost perfect. One of these things is not like the other". Then it won.

I suppose Brokeback Mountain although I’m not really a huge fan of it. Every year there’s usually at least one film from the Best Picture lineup that I at the very least like, but 2005 is an exception

I'm in the huge minority, but I still think that the right film won that year. Munich is great as well though and a close second and Good Night and Good Luck would have been worthy as well.
