Ground-breaking movie. After years of Merchant Ivory type productions, it really challenged the British independent film scene to start tasking more risks, visually, stylistically and narratively. I think this film emboldened British filmmakers like Guy Ritchie, Matthew Vaughn and Jonathan Glazer to start pushing traditional boundaries in aesthetic.

Hard to keep watching after the toilet scene. Unfortunately it's at the beginning.

Hard to keep watching after the toilet scene. Unfortunately it's at the beginning. I needed to quote this because its so true. This was a disgusting film all around and not very entertaining . Just dirty and I 've never really been a big fan of Ewan McGregor . IMO one of the most overrated films of the 90s .

Luckily it's at the beginning.

It's a seminal piece of 90's filmmaking. A rush of fresh air and vitality through the british movie scene. Horrific, entertaining, sad and a whole lot of fun. Great cast too!
And everyone who has seen it at a certain age is certainly never getting its soundtrack out of his/her head.
I've recently watched it again since I don't know when, and I still liked it a lot. It is not a great great film though, maybe a tad overrated by those who were in their late twenties back in the day. Which is understandable, because it really leaves an impression.
Unquestionably one of the quintessential movies of the 90's.
