What the. I think this went completely under the radar during production. Branagh hasn't helmed an "original" project in ages, so this'll be interesting, and with Judi Dench in the cast. Is she a late game-change Supporting player? What's the size of this project? I have questions. Branagh has turned into a bad <and worse, boring> director. But I'll always give him cred for the breathtaking direction of his Hamlet.

Every aspect of this movie sounds just so, so vanilla.

I certainly hope it's better than the trainwreck that was Murder on the Orient Express...

The out-of-nowhere Kenneth Branagh Shakespeare movie.
Boy, the makeup category is just stacked this year. I can see this getting in easily.

Somehow btwn worldwide promotion for Orient Express and prepping Artemis Fowl, completely under the radar he directed and starred in this. I don't know how it'll turn out, it looks like it could go either way, but some of the anamorphic visuals are interesting, strong cast around him with Dench and McKellen, and I especially like that this is an original film. Of course the first original film Branagh does since the mid-90s is about Shakespeare, haha.
I'm a huge fan of his Hamlet, it's a masterfully cinematic adaptation of the best play of all time so there's that. Much Ado has a much lighter touch, but it's appealing, and I quite like Emma Thompson in it. Everything else that I've seen of his directed works is godawful - Frankenstein, Orient Express, etc. I still have catching up to do, but so far to me he's a mixed, maddening filmmaker...

I don't understand where (or why?) things went wacky for Branagh - his Henry V is great, his Dead Again has its moments (take the slickness off it and remake it as a nasty giallo and it would totally work!), his Frankenstein was a disaster but then a magnificent Hamlet and then ........well he's Oscar nodded for playing Olivier (role he was born to play, in his shadow) and now this...........very intrigued.
Something went very wrong in his film career - I suspect he'd like to hit one more out of the park to make up for it......
