So many nuances he adds to his character that may have actually not been in the script. Or if they were, his ability to convey so many conflicting thoughts and emotions without them ever getting expressed verbally is rather incredible.

I'm still not over how genuine that laugh felt when he heard the "fireball" line a third time.

Hear hear! I've just said it in Farahani thread. Such natural, authentic performances and presence. Don't ever sell out and become hammy Oscar beggars! Performance like this is precious. Sucks that awards bodies don't encourage them (how on Earth he missed Indie Spirit is beyond me) but they should be savored.

Am I the only one who hated Paterson and found it unbearably pretentious? (I have a love/hate relationship with Jim Jarmusch, but when it's hate I find it excruciating! I happened to be wearing black and white the day I saw this film and I felt ashamed by my attire I disliked the film so much.)
Of course this opinion has nothing to do with Adam Driver's performance.

I liked the movie quite a bit but what I didn't really enjoy was the poetry (if I can call it that )

Yes, I found the poetry laughably bad. And on the other hand I also found it irritating that it should be some big deal/unusual that a bus driver should write/be interested in poetry.
Anyway, I'll stop moaning. If you don't have anything nice to say and all I guess! Sorry! *hides*

No worries. I thought that bad poetry was the point. It was bad but his wife believed in him and he enjoyed being creative and that's all that really mattered.

How can you call Paterson pretentious when it's pretty much the polar opposite of it? It's a quiet, subdued, simple film about everyday life, and finding beauty in the ordinary. It's not interested in making any big, overblown statements about the meaning of life of anything like that at all.
