Absolutely love this film and Darren Aronofsky really featured some trippy imagery in this one on a modest budget . I probably like it more than most folks on here (my fav moments would be featuring the conquistador scenes. ditto on the beautiful score thru out ). And imo the last 15 to 20 minutes is just glorious to watch & take in .

The conquistador stuff is amazing and by far the best thing Aronofsky has done, but the rest of it is highfalutin nonsense. Incredible soundtrack and some promising themes, but Aronofsky is so surface-level he doesn't have the ability to really make those themes sing to their full potential. It's almost like he sought out to make a Terrence Malick film, and Malick saw it and went, "Aw, that's nice!", patted Li'l Darren on his head and then made The Tree of Life to show him how it's done.

Funny, I also rewatched it on the 19ths
It was my second viewing as I wanted to give ti another chance and I was having a Darren Aronofsky marathon.
I still dont think its great and generally a wasted opportunity mostly because the story was good enough. But I think the film was cut massivly by the studio and thus lost its essence.
Visually it is stunning. The performances by Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz were great and oh that soundtrack is stunning.
6/10

It's by far the best film Aronofsky has ever made. It has an extremely interesting concept, that is handled quite effectively, great cinematography and some fantastic acting by Jackman and Weisz.

One of the dullest movies I've ever seen.

Watching this movie was like flipping through a coffee book with hokey philosophical quotes on the bottom of each page. At least the images are pretty.

It used to be my least favorite Aronofsky film... and then mother! happened. Thoughts on Noah(2014)? I like Noah, aside from a couple bizarre directorial decisions, and would probably rank it third or so in his filmography (behind The Wrestler and Black Swan). Like a lot of his work, its audacious, but here his ideas are actually coherent and thoughtful.
