Won’t lie, I think this looks pretty great. I always enjoy a good crime drama and Nicole Kidman looks fantastic. Now admittedly, I haven’t seen The invitation which seems to be somewhat...divisive among viewers. The only Kusama films I’ve seen are Jennifer’s Body (meh) and XX (pretty boring film overall although her segment wasn’t too bad).. Probably gonna wait until I’ve seen The Invitation and Girlfight before giving an opinion on Kusama as a director. But this trailer has caught my attention.

Damn, I'm jealous. Not surprised that Kidman is indeed great, but how good's the film in general? I got to see Roma, The Favourite, Destroyer, Wildlife, and Vox Lux!!! The film is a tough sit, but it's satisfying, if not really compelling. Kidman's performance certainly elevates it. Can you rank of all those movies including this one, the actresses ?

Hi evilbliss ! Hm... I don't think I can rank them right now - the performances are too fresh and need time to settle - but I can certainly share my disjointed thoughts. Colman, Stone, and Weisz all play wonderfully off of each other's pushes and pulls - comic gusto abounds. Each actress approaches her role differently, but their work shares a frightening ambiguity that keeps you guessing their motivations. I'm still unable to choose a favourite (heh), but just know that all three are doing genius work - we've never seen anything like this from any of them before. Aparicio functions as more of an auteur vessel - think Swinton in I Am Love or Dunst in Marie Antoinette - there's not too much for her to do and her character doesn't have much of an arc, but she's certainly moving. This is Mulligan's best-ever performance - tense and powerful, but anchored by vulnerability - totally committed in terms of physicality (she is astonishingly believable as an American housewife in the 60s). Wow. One of my favorite performances of the year. Edit: Oh, and Portman! She is a lot of fun - I don't think she's ever tried this kind of comedy before - but she goes for the jugular. This is a BIG performance. It's sure to be one of the most divisive of the year.

Just one more thing: between The Favourite, La La Land and Birdman, which is the best Emma Stone performance?

I would rank Easy A above Birdman, too, for what it's worth.

That makeup is truly awful. And prosthetics too? It completely took me out of the trailer. A shame, because I was looking forward to this.
Also, this film is going nowhere awards-wise. It got a really lukewarm reception when it premiered (currently 64 on MC).

Is it just me or does she totally look like Bale's sister in one of the more harrowing of her looks in the trailer?
