Oh honey, Lady in a Cage is a scream!
The most horrifying thing about it is the opening credits with the dead dog on the streets (very Luis Bunuel)... that and the overacting!

Though not the most ideal quality, I found God Told Me To, Brain Damage, Superstition, and The Boneyard all just hanging out on YouTube in their entireties. God Told Me To was as bizarre as you had led me to believe. I had always had a bit of interest after Ebert called it "The most confused feature-length film I have ever seen." While that was in a negative context, it only added to my curiosity. If not entirely coming together in a coherent way, I liked some of the individual qualities. There was a nice surreal quality that came from draining the color out of the flashback scenes that felt super creepy, and the jumping around gave off an eerie disorientation that fit the material. That Sylvia Sidney performance is very welcome too. I loved the start of Superstition, though it proves a bit hard to live up to having both an exploding head and sliced-in-half-by-window death scene in the first 10 minutes. It did have a couple of surprises here and there, particularly the very nicely shot execution flashback and holy shit, it's one thing to actually kill the kid but to do the "hang upside down like Bob in Halloween so his mother finds him" thing, Jesus Christ! I greatly admire the balls of that moment. I also, admittedly, kind of the love the "fuck you" ending too. The Boneyard took a little bit to get into, with relatively boring characters and a setup that takes a little too long. You know, before it goes totally fucking nuts. I felt nice and creeped out watching the zombie kids with the freaky ass designs slowly peel the sheets off themselves, not even realizing what was to follow. It's almost kind of hard to believe that a zombie Phyllis Diller with a resemblance to Large Marge's ghoul face is in a movie that actually exists. Love that practical zombie that just takes the brains out of his own head and sticks them in Diller's mouth. He's going places. Brain Damage is one of those movies you watch and you're kind of disappointed it hasn't always been in your life. I only just saw Basket Case for the first time last year, and Henenlotter found a way to outcrazy himself just when you think it's not possible. Just as hilarious as it is gross, and just as creative as it is insane. I noticed lately that Paranoid has been losing his shit over this movie on Letterboxd this past week, and I don't blame him at all. Will definitely become an annual viewing around this time of year. I was also able to catch Fear in the Night. As you eluded to, interest does wane throughout the first hour, though I did like some of the more unexpected choices it made that make sense when it all comes around, like when it seems like they show their hand (hehe) shockingly early with the supposed Cushing reveal. The twists also kind of made me appreciate the pace a little more in retrospect since it's basically all just a slightly different twist on Gaslight.

Messiah of Evil looks like my kind of jam. And it's from the the writers of American Graffiti! That alone would pique my interest, but the movie genuinely seems like it's up my alley regardless.

I saw The Canal late at night a few years ago - it is pretty underrated! Several genuinely terrifying moments (bathroom scene etc) and some are very brutal (that ending, wow).
Thx again Cheesecake for another smashing, spooky 31 Days! Already looking forward to next year ~ !

How does it compare to the others? Excellent job as always on this! Always one of my favorite parts of the season.
