Indian version of Pirates of the Caribbean? As if those movies aren't long enough.

To be fair Johnny Depp has been butchering his most iconic role himself for quite a while now.

I still don't understand why there's always random song and dance sequences in Indian films...

I still don't understand why there's always random song and dance sequences in Indian films... The real question is "why aren't there random song and dance sequences in everything?"

I still don't understand why there's always random song and dance sequences in Indian films... The real question is "why aren't there random song and dance sequences in everything?" Imagine Schindler's List where Goeth just up and starts a song and dance with the Jews dancing along in the background? lol. Now I'm imagining it. "Zings are getting zcary Jews are in ze penitentiary Smoke from ze stacks dark and brown Ashes filling up ze towwwwnnnnnnnn" *dabs*

I miss Cutthroat Island. Also, screw you. That movie’s fun in its stupidity.

It's a fictional story based on historical events. To be honest when this project was announced, i expected it to be a gritty action drama but judging by the trailer the treatment looks similar to Pirates of Caribbean. It does look bad. I didn't expect this from Aamir Khan who is one of the most sensible and reliable artists in Indian cinema but the film will be a huge hit (even if it's half good) thanks to his super stardom in India and China.

I still don't understand why there's always random song and dance sequences in Indian films... Songs are part of Indian culture and it has been that way for centuries. It just took different shapes as time went by and now films are the main source of music and the lack of superior pop musicians helps in continuing this trend. Also Indian movie watching is quite different from rest of the world. Most Indians treat movies as escapist entertainment. They want to have some nice time away from their hardworking, chaotic and miserable life. It is why most movies has a mix of action, comedy, melodrama, twists, songs and dances. Audience expect a complete package and want maximum fun they can get. They don't go for other choices like theater, pop music, stand-up comedy, opera etc., cause the domination of cinema is so big that the aforementioned things are seen as niche and even non-existent.
