She's just incredible - this is a performance of quiet, cumulative power. A beautifully restrained and ultimately wrenching turn. For an actress who's often accused of being "over the top," her work here is very shades of Rampling in 45 Years. And just as Tom Courtenay was wonderful there, so too is Jonathan Pryce here. May I have the envelope, please?

Been hearing really good things about both her and Pryce. Best actress seems stacked but we'll see what happens.

In terms of her actually winning, I'll believe it when I see it. Which has no bearing on the actual performance or of Close herself in general, but I don't trust the Academy to ever give her an Oscar after they missed a perfect time to give her a freebie win in 2011 for Original Song. After that, I pretty much reconciled myself to believing that she'll never win one.

I've only watched a handful of Close's films, but this is easily the best performance I've seen from her. Pryce is terrific too, but this is really her show. It's a very shrewd, brilliantly controlled, internal performance until the explosive final act where everything boiling underneath the surface comes to a head, and it's mesmerizing to watch. I also thought of 45 Years while I was watching it, and while I like that film better overall, this film was still a fascinating study of a codependent relationship of two creative minds, which made it psychologically distinct from the former (Not sure if that's really a spoiler, but I made it one anyway) In terms of the Oscars, I think the race will ultimately be between Close and Lady Gaga, as strange as that sounds...

Yes, she's great ! I've never been the biggest fan, I feel she sometimes takes it too seriously but here is like she's in control and have fun with what se does and it's impossible not to look at what she's doing, Pryce is really good too but she simply had more to do. My only hesitation is the movie itself, I like it, but feels dated, as if we were actually watching a movie from the early 90s, she needed a stronger situation/narrative like Moore after TIFF 2014 to secure at least the nomination, she needed at least the critics and another performances have secure that space already. It's only starting, it would be a great win, we'll see...

Now we just need Sigourney Weaver to snatch this kind of role and this kind of buzz....

Haven't seen the film yet but I'll be surprised if she misses this year.
By the way, I read an interview today in The Sunday Times that she did and when asked about the buzz for her finally winning, she said "I am thrilled about it. For me, it has always been about the role, but would I like one. Yeah. Why not, right?"
