Said this before in the Separating Art from the Artist thread but Roman Polanski is the leading feminist filmmaker of his era in English anyway in his films - he consistently made films like this - Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby, Death and the Maiden, Tess etc. I know it's controversial to say, but it's also true and while people love to say "No he isn't!" I don't hear any other names or convincing arguments that his work isn't feminist itself........not one.
Anyway, here's a couple key other ones :
Messidor (1979) a pivotal world feminist film - completely ignored on here as its director, Alain Tanner, that in many ways was copied (in some themes too) by Thelma & Louise.
The Rain People (1969) a pivotal American feminist film by Francis Ford Coppola no less. Shirley Knight in fear of her marriage, pregnancy, sanity is consistently spoken down to or marginalized by the males she comes across.
Ms. 45 (1981) low budget, exploitation, and unforgettable.

Haven't seen Death and the Maiden, Tess and those others look interesting too. Thanks for the recs.

Happy-Go-Lucky would be a solid example of this for sure.
The very first thing that popped into my head was Beauty and the Beast, as it is literally what the opening number is about.
