This occured to me as sort of the flip of the Separating the Artist thread. Who are the artists that you make sure to support their films (or even perhaps causes?). That's the opposite of my feelings overall on the topic - ie I always separate the artist from the art - always, 100%, no exceptions.
But while I wouldn't give a good review to every Woody Allen film - I would see every Woody Allen film in theaters - specifically to support him now - I think he's gotten a raw deal and I would make an effort to support him. For a long time that was true of him in every project, long after the scandal. But in the aftermath of the recent flareups with him and the fact that his career is close to an end given his age......I think I'm sad I missed a couple of those films now and I made sure that I didn't miss Wonder Wheel in theaters.
Is there anyone like this for you? I don't just mean "I see every Ryan Gosling movie because I like him" - is there someone you'd support specifically to make a point.
Doesn't just have to apply to films, it can recording artists, authors, etc. Also doesn't have to be "scandal related" at all - ie you can support them for a position they take or something just because you agree with it - but it has to be something outside of just the work you're supporting. I'm using support to mean with both your money/thoughts.

Too many to list. But if we're talking people I'd support that others might not, I'll always be first in line for a Nicolas Winding Refn project, regardless of the platform or premise.

I'm really cheap but I do enjoy supporting independent films in theaters when I can, especially A24 projects.

No matter the project, I will always be first in line to see anything made by Alfonso Cuaron, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson.
I used to feel this way about Woody Allen but he's gone so downhill in quality this decade. It used to be worth trudging through an Anything Else or Melinda And Melinda because he'd always come back with a Match Point or Vicky Cristina Barcelona. But everything after Midnight In Paris this decade has been so awful that I skipped Cafe Society and Wonder Wheel. Were either of those worth seeing? I don't judge him, the man is quite old and has given us plenty of masterpieces, but I don't think I could sit through another Whatever Works.

I honestly can't think of anyone. At all. I don't appreciate anyone so much as a person that I would support them simply because of who they are. I don't follow filmmakers enough to know anything about their personal lives. I only know what gets into the headlines, and that is always negative.

I wouldn't consider myself a big enough fan of anyone in the film (or other arts) business to see / support their work no matter what. Also, in general, I couldn't give a flying feck about the politics / opinions / causes of people I've never met, whether I agree or disagree with them. So I suppose my answer is no one.

I really, really liked Cafe Society and thought Wonder Wheel, while overwrought, had a very strong performance from Winslet and magnificent cinematography, which made it worth a look. All his Storaro collaborations have been utterly gorgeous, really. But I might not be the most reliable source, since even when Woody is at his worst I always find something to appreciate in his films. And though it's been like 8 years since I saw it, I remember being one of like 5 people who loved Whatever Works, so I wouldn't really trust me if I were you.

For the past couple years I've been going out of my way to look up and support arthouse/indie cinema from my country because there's several underappreciated gems flying under the radar and going completely unnoticed, selling only a few thousand tickets and getting pulled from theaters after a week or two. I always hear casual moviegoers talk about how our film industry produces nothing of actual worth, and it pisses me off because most of the good stuff gets seen by basically nobody. I don't know if we're going through a renaissance of sorts or if our arthouse industry has always been this strong and I wasn't paying attention, but I've been positively surprised by how much boundary-pushing, formally inventive and politically resonant stuff has been coming out in the past few years. So I make an effort to support as many of them as I can and see them in theaters.

Fincher. (don't give a damn about the subject matter , he's been my fav for quite awhile now and will continue to support his films in theaters. When it was announced that he was going to make a film about Facebook , it gave me some pause but I trusted him to make an interesting film and he blew me away with it. Exceeded my expectations and is one of the best films of the decade imo )
Refn (he's certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but I find his films to be so "different" than what the rest of Hollywood is shoveling out these days. Can't wait for Too Old to Die Young which sounds like an interesting show )
