Best Director winner at last year's Venice Film Festival.
Saw this one yesterday, and I'm still processing the whole thing. I went in completely blind and wasn't entirely sure where it was headed after the half-hour mark, but holy shit, those last 20 minutes. Once it became clear where Legrand was taking his story I thought he was about to squander all the dread and atmosphere he'd built up up until that point (much like Audiard did with Dheepan, which takes a somewhat similar turn towards the finish line with very unsatisfying results), but not only was Custody's ending far more startling and nerve-wracking than I expected once it announced itself, it also snapped Legrand's intentions into clearer focus in a way I sincerely didn't see coming. It's a little too slight and there's one particular subplot that doesn't really go anywhere, but the way Legrand plays with the audience's expectations is admirable, and the three central performances are astonishing. Thomas Gioria in particular is just magnificent; I'll be stunned if I see a better child performance this year.
In other words, in case Hereditary wasn't enough and you crave for more family misery, this is the film for you.
Did anyone catch this?

No, but I've heard wonderful things about it, a friend of mine saw it last year and said the entire room was dead silence, I don't know what she meant by that but told me something that it was visceral and unexpected but incredibly well excecuted, I'm really excited to see this one !
