Finding it a bit funny that the Washington National Opera is performing Dead Man Walking right now, with Champion coming up. Got me thinking what movies would work really well in the opera format. I've never actually seen a live opera (I watched a ballet a few months ago, and hope to catch an opera next season), so I'm not sure.
My first thought is Blade Runner. Can't articulate why. I just think it would be a great fit.

Boogie Nights seems like it could transfer over nicely. It's so high drama at times, that I could see it as both a musical and an opera.

Sunset Boulevard. Even Billy Wilder said it (I think).

I saw one a few years ago had Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson, Simon Callow, and Minnie Driver in. I forget what it was called...

I would die to see a live-action musical version of Toy Story (a la The Lion King) - disregard that that's not an opera.
