I would say Barbara Stanwyck was equally adept at both drama and comedy. She played quite a range of dramatic and comedic roles throughout her career, with Double Indemnity and The Lady Eve (one being dramatic, the other comedic) possibly her two best performances. Versatile actress, she could dance too…

Can't believe Christopher Walken has gone unmentioned so far in this thread...don't even need to explain it.
James Cagney isn't the first name that comes to mind, but this dude did plenty of lighthearted/comedic fare in his career, and did it well.
Lee Marvin...his Oscar win was for an outright comedy, he ripped the the screen from both Brando (The Wild One) and Wayne (The Comancheros) with his buffoonish antics, had a #1 hit with Paint Your Wagon. That's not even getting to Donovan's Reef and his hilarious rapport with Carl Weathers in Death Hunt.
Some more unconventional names:
Gary Busey Jeff Goldblum Jeff Daniels
As for Gene Hackman, I'll never fail to be astonished by the fact that the guy who carried The Conversation on his shoulders as a pensive, socially maladjusted basket case is the same guy who gifted us what might be the greatest comedic cameo ever (Young Frankenstein) the same year...don't give two shits how long his appearance is.

Only in the OP is Mastroianni mentioned ..........hmmmmmmmm.......he's the best of any GOAT level actor for both maybe I reckon......going off the Cinema Archives top 11 list as a GOAT shorthand - which is pretty solid with names at least with some arguments - but Mastroianni wouldn't be one of the arguments tbh (see below) No mention of Depardieu (?) - who did The Fugitives, Going Places, Get Out Your Handkerchiefs, Buffet Froid, Les Compères, La Chevre, The Closet, Too Beautiful For You, Menage, Green Card - in his greatish run ........all different kinds of comedic work .........and unlike Gene Hackman he actually carried / toplined many of them.........just sayin' ..........the Depardieu erasure on MAR in basically every acting thread is pretty depressing 1 -De Niro 2 -Stewart 3 -Brando 4 -Mifune 5 -Pacino 6 -Nicholson 7 -DDL B -Bogart 9 -Grant 10-Chaplin 11-Mastroianni

Kamal Haasan and Song Kang Ho, two of the World's Cinema best actors, discovered them first in some of their more comic roles, especially Song Kang Ho who had a lot of them early in his career, his physical moves for comedic effect are often hilarious and you see them even in his more famous, dramatic work. Kamal in Pushpak : Kang ho in The Fool King
