I don’t expect a whole lot when I watch an Ocean’s film. I don’t see them as classics in any way, but I see them as these really slick, really enjoyable capers that really thrive off of the chemistry of their players that help elevate their thin characters. With that said, I wasn’t disappointed by Ocean’s 8. There was a lot of enjoyment to be had watching the big schemes unfold and the various cogs in the machine turn, and it has such a smooth, charismatic flair, especially in watching the players and off of each other in their games of deception. Sandra Bullock is having the time of her life at the charge, perfect at filling Danny’s shoes, but I think it’s Hathaway who handily steals the show. Really had fun with this one.

Good to hear. I'm a HUGE fan of 11 and 12 so it has a lot to live up to. Still, I'm just hoping for a fun crime caper akin to 13.
Plus, I heart Bullock.

I only watched Eleven and forgot everything about it the next day. This one looks quite fun though. Looks like a solid 7 - 7.5 experience.

I thought it was pretty good. I felt it lacked a really solid conflict other than Corden’s character and the occasional “oops we hit a snag”, but those are followed by “not to worry, we got this” moments. The ensemble does work rather nicely and I would say Awkwafina and Bonham Carter stood out for me the most. Also, wasn’t Damien Lewis supposed to be in this? And Damon in a cameo? I wonder if his recent comments got him cut or if they just couldn’t find a place for either of them, but I thought Damon may have at least shown up during the credits.

Agree with the general consensus that this was a solid 7/10. Hathaway was the standout and was very funny. The heist seemed a little too easy, though, could have been a little better.

any good cameos from the cast of Oceans' 11 in this one? I may see this next weekend when I can.

This was reasonably fun, though I found it a little bland early on before the crew gets together. Some of the cast members were underused and it doesn't have the same level of snappy dialogue of the Soderbergh films, but I enjoyed myself overall. 6.5/10

This script just screamed "rough first draft that gets passed along to 4 other writers before it goes into production", because it has no meat or spark as it is. A far cry from both Eleven and Logan Lucky. The cast is top notch but there's really nothing memorable about it or any real tension anywhere, and half of the women are wasted anyway. Rihanna and Awkwafina had like 4 lines each, and Kaling and Paulson are also totally underserved. Everything falls on the characters' laps with no sense of danger or challenge at all, some of the gadgets they use border on James Bond territory, and once James Corden shows up (why) the whole thing comes undone in a conclusion that's totally iffy and obvious. Wasted opportunity.
With that said, though, who'd have thought that Bullock and Blanchett would have so much energy together. Sexual chemistry FOR DAYS, and I like that the film didn't even try to downplay that the characters were obviously banging.

The cast really elevates it... I enjoyed it a lot thanks to them. The final 20 or so minutes are pretty strong too.... Why in the fuck did they have to kill off Danny Ocean though? I was totally expecting Clooney to show up at the end and say something smooth af to Debbie before cutting to the credits. Wish the Damon cameo was still there... but enjoyed Gould and Qin. also, was very surprised to see James Gandolfini's son as a busboy...

It was okay. The heist was too easy with no real conflict or tension. Too many things had to go perfectly for any of it to even work - so her "planning" for 5 years felt pointless.

It was a tolerable reboot but not on par with any of the Clooney/Soderbergh Ocean movies. The film lacked the great dynamic of those films and tried too hard to capture the wit. It had its moments for sure but generally was rather mediocre. Also the problem was that the film had so many con stunts but hardly showed the preparation or ideas, they just presented them like it was the most normal thing without showing the logic or thinking behind it. The acting was solid but with so much talent involved the most memorable performance came from the two most unlikeliest ones: Rhianna and Awkwafina who both had charisma and the funniest scenes. Sandra Bullock was okay but I expected more from her in that kind of role. She aint no Clooney. Cate Blanchett was wasted, except for one good scene. Helena Bonham Carter had potential but wasnt used much. Anna Hathaway was enjoyable and had many self ironic scenes. Mindy Kaling was also okay. The soundtrack worked but it often felt it didn't know in which direction it goes -- just like the movie. Hardly any twists, often very predictable. Yes it was entertaining, I was not bored but you missed the Soderbergh touch. I think he could handle that material better than Gary Ross. 6/10
