I don't mean in terms of quality, more like how Under the Silver Lake was expected to be a moody thriller like It Follows and then the trailer came out and everyone was surprised that it's an "Inherent Vice meets David Lynch"-type comedy.
I either read somewhere or completely made up in my head that mother! was gonna feature Lawrence and Domhnall Gleeson as newlyweds throwing a dinner party that gets interrupted by the arrival of Lawrence's parents, played by Pfeiffer and Harris. Think Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? meets the mother-daughter dynamics of Black Swan.
