It's pretty good, but also pretty overpraised.

All of the Carl and Ellie stuff is absolutely wonderful, one of the most poignant and life-affirming stories ever. And it's not just the opening sequence; hell, I'd say the scene of Carl looking through the scrapbook that kicks off the third act is even more moving than the "Married Life" montage. Everything else is silly fun, it's entertaining and I like the dynamic between Carl and Russell, but it's the context surrounding that story that is truly special and makes me love the movie.

I love it, but I kinda wish the "Married Life" sequence was the entire movie. That's obviously a totally different story than Pixar wanted to tell which is why they covered it all in a succinct clip...but I would like to have seen the Carl and Ellie relationship from beginning to end be the films focus.

It gets off to a great start, and then, for lack of a better word, it deflates. It slowly gets worse and worse, full of silly gags instead of the emotional power it began with. By the time it ends, it is just a run-of-the-mill, ordinary little movie.

It's the story of Carl 's disillusionment about his hero and his travelling plans, substituting them with something better. He can finally see his past life with his wife not as a devastating loss, but as a sweet memory. And becoming the everyday life hero of a kid.

An amazing, heartfelt and bittersweet film; another one of Pixar's many masterpieces.

It's like the best thing they've ever done... seriously. The only other time I would truly praise Pixar's genius is Toy Story 3.
I think Toy Story and Wall-E are their only other greats films but I wouldn't call those genius as much as they're well told universal stories.
I don't get this board sometimes. They don't know what they're talking about. This is far more than just about Carl and Ellie, the stuff they come up with here is original, astounding, and things I didn't see coming a mile away... it all builds up well, and if you're gonna criticize this for being cheap or silly or knockaround fun, that's like... every other Pixar, except even more.

It's been almost ten years since I saw it but I remember thinking it starts out magnificently and loses energy as it goes along, with the first few minutes being some of the best material Pixar's ever put out and the latter portions being very good but not as extraordinary.

Excellent film that will give pleasure to all kinds of audiences as it wants to appeal to the child quality hidden, perhaps, in all of us.

It's fantastic. Beyond the opening, I love its sense of adventure and the score by Giacchino is terrific. Carl Frederikson is also one of Pixar's best lead characters. It's really good basically.

I think it's a great movie. The opening stretch gets all the praise, and for good reason, but I love the rest of it too. I think it hides a lot of good stuff effectively beneath that crazy, garish, out there trip of an experience. Let's be real, there's no way most of that stuff was cooked up by someone that wasn't abusing some sort of substances. It's like a descendant of Yellow Submarine.
