Back in January this was reported (tho nothing from the bigger trades yet) : It's based on a true story about Leo Sharp, a 90-year-old horticulturist and WWII veteran who is caught transporting $3 million worth of cocaine through Michigan for a Mexican drug cartel. Well....... Starts filming June 4th. Eastwood will be 88 years old! Remember, Gran Torino started filming in July '08 and was released in Dec that year.

I remember hearing about this guy. How his lawyer was saying he was all contrite and had been manipulated into this, and to look at his war record...
But IIRC, he didn't have dementia or any serious mental problems. He knew what he was doing. Made it hard to sympathize with the guy.
Could make a good movie, though.

Sounds better than his last 2 movies. I did like Sully though, haven’t seen the other one but it looks pretty crappy tbh.

Even though Gran Torino has a lot of problems, Clint is so goddamn good in it (and was so fucking robbed of a nomination that year), and I wish it had been his acting swan song. It was a perfect cap.
Then Trouble with the Curve happened.

Then Trouble with the Curve happened. I wonder if this'll be his swan song as both an actor and director... Definitely sounds great. Probably his last acting gig. But I think he'll keep directing as long as he's able; sure doesn't seem like he's slowing down. I'm curious how comedic this project will be, something Clint ain't exactly used to. Dave Holstein, a comedy writer, re-wrote the script. The premise is wacky enough for this to be pretty funny I think.

The fact that he is almost 90 and still putting out some much work is a gift.

Can't wait . God Bless Eastwood . He truly is a national treasure (gave Unforgiven a re watch this past week and it still definitely holds up as one of my all time fav westerns )
Another reason why I am excited about this film is not just cause of Eastwood acting again but I am a sucker for all things involving drug cartels . Should be entertaining as hell.

We gonna have Redford and Eastwood face off for best actor in a battle of the old men? I'd be game for that.
Damn, now I'm wishing that we had a movie with the two of them together on opposite sides of the law.

Not a fan of Clint's recent films but that looks rather wrenching and potentially fantastic and it has that thing I always bring up - what's the best performance you've seen an actor give in his 60s/70s/80s+ etc? because that matters a lot imo.
There is something devastatingly beautiful in seeing Clint Eastwood directing himself, ravaged by time in a script specifically addressing a life (of regret) ravaged by time too - you don't get that with any other Art form. An elderly author writing about being old or an elderly painter doing an elderly self portrait can be great sure but it will never reflect life in the way that the camera and a performance can.
One of the biggest problems in acting and in films now is the absence of silence - filmmakers and actors (and composers) so busy using up every second of space. If he does this right he could get a lot of power from silence here.

Farnsworth in The Straight Story (79) is king, but Stanton in Lucky (91), Newman in Road to Perdition (77), Jessica Tandy in Driving Miss Daisy (80) and Geraldine Page in The Pope of Greenwich Village/The Trip to Bountiful (60-61) are all up there as well for me.

Your post has me even more excited for this film now haha. A few things: this will be released 47 years after Play Misty for Me and 45 after High Plains Drifter (two films I like enough) and I did a post about that, I just kinda love when a filmmaker has done strong work over such a long period of time, and yeah he's slipped in the last ten years or so but this might be a great top-off for Clint - character-focused, not as ludicrous as Gran Torino, based on a true story, and potentially an award-winning role for him. And there's also the bit that it's so rare for a director over 80 to make a very good or great film. L'Argent, The Dead, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead....and?? (Well -- I haven't seen Saraband, Wajda's last few films, Oliveira's, etc.....) Let alone direct themselves in it! Only other ex. I can think of someone over-80 directing self is Woody Allen in Crisis in Six Scenes (not a special performance but he has fine rapport with Elaine May).

Looks really good. It's Eastwood so I presume it's going to be very bare-bones in its writing and the supporting characters will be about as fleshed out as cardboard, but when his films have a strong anchor to them his stripped-down approach can really resonate. And I can't think of a much stronger anchor for a movie about a desperate old man with a lifetime of regret than Eastwood himself.

Looks great. Ready for Clint to kick Redford's ass as the best old man performance of the year.

The colour grading makes the film rather unappealing
