A major filmmaker who appreciated humor as a cutting, almost subversive storytelling device.
I'd also mention his very funny, very dark and very fine People vs. Larry Flynt which I just recently re-watched and still holds up great.....that is a great screenplay too (not nodded, wtf).
RIP

The man was a legend. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was a fantastic film but Amadeus is one of the greatest films ever made.

Aww. Very talented man with an eclectic resume. Amadeus is all-time great and I really like Cuckoo and the underrated The Fireman's Ball. Rest in peace.

You don't see many directors who can take an operatic approach on big ideas and explore them to their fullest potential just as easily as he can focus in on an individual person and really search through what makes them tick. Even fewer could do both at the same time. A talent as extraordinary as he is underrated. RIP.

one of THE GOAT in making the smallest details and nuances of a character, for the want of a better word, spark and burst, and he made his work look almost seamless. the goat level director IMO. RIP.
also, norton's eulogy is beautiful.

Rip. I like to remember him visually as Father Havel in Edward Norton 's Keeping the faith.

I just rewatched One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest a couple weeks ago. Truly one of the best directors of our time.

He was a great talent. With a fascinating career, in how every decade he sort of shifted the type of films he was making, more or less....
60s: Czech new wave (Firemen's is great, Black Peter is better than Blonde, Audition is light fun) 70s: American culture (the interesting hilarious and pointed Taking Off, his masterpiece One Flew, Hair n/s) 80s: period pieces etc (with a superb first half Ragtime, masterful Amadeus, weak Valmont) 90s: the eccentric biopics
RIP
