Dogs. They’re cute, cuddly, and they’re loyal. I’ve never met a cat that wasn’t a bastard.

This, but since I actually dislike dogs (yes some of us do exist) and am pretty indifferent to cats, I guess cats win by default.

CATS. Dogs are obnoxious and stupid. Cats have distinctive personalities like people and are fun to play with. Love petting them and watching them purr.

I like both, but I don't really want the responsibility of caring for either. I definitely appreciate the companionship they bring, though.

Dogs.
Cats are fine, but I'd much rather a dog's company than a cat's.

Can I say both? No? Then cats.
I had a couple of cats (one is still alive and kicking) that would set traps for the neighborhood cats. Tinkerbell would go into the open and roll around all over the ground looking eccentric (she really was crazy eccentric, and as a bobtail I imagine that she looked strange to most other cats), and when cats would stop to stare, Tiger would sneak up behind and pounce on them, at which point Tinkerbell would drop the act and help in the attack. It was amazing stuff to see.
Another great moment was when Tigger (I didn't name these cats, there's no way I'd have a Tigger and Tiger in the same house if I was in charge) was dying. She and Tinkerbell never got along, but she was always friendly with Tiger. Anyway, on her last day, she held court in the closet. I stood outside (she didn't want me around) and Tiger went in, he stayed there for around 2 or 3 minutes before leaving. Tinkerbell was sitting beside me the whole time, so she figured that it was her turn: she walked to the closet and was met with the most venomous hiss. She stopped in her tracks, looked in the closet for a couple of moments, turned and walked away, practically shrugging as she turned.

Dogs. They are basically wolves genetically and behavior wise, so they are more accustomed to a kind of social life more similar to human one (there's collaboration to get a result). Dogs enjoy working with us, even if nowadays most dogs ' job is basically only playing, and they clearly like our company.
Cats gave me the vibe that they are more... judgmental towards humans.

Certain dogs really do need to be put to work or they'll go stir crazy. Cats will do work as mousers, but the mousers don't really appreciate being "pets" on the whole. The pet cats will sometimes catch a bird or mouse, but they just do it for the occasional sport and will sometimes let rodents just walk on by. My cat Tiger killed a bird and brought it over once as a present; didn't eat it, just set it next to his food dish so I knew he had a gift.

Cats gave me the vibe that they are more... judgmental towards humans. Oh honey, cats once they've bonded with their owners can be very affectionate. Mine always licks me and often gets into my hair when I am sleeping and starts grooming me which is a sign that you are seen as part of the family (Big Mama). I've always talked to her so she is very vocal and meows whenever she wants a faucet opened (she likes to drink out the tub) or a door opened, or for food, treats, etc. She can sometimes be quite demanding! She also communicates a lot with her eyes by staring into mine and then moving her gaze to the object - like when she's sleeping and I can't and am reading and she wants the lamp switched off. She looks at me and then moves her eyes to the lamp and then back to me. She also does some weird telepathic shit by sitting in front of me when I am watching TV and staring at me like she's trying to beam into my head. She loves music (especially classical) and she does like to watch TV or Youtube if you put on birds or animals on for her. The other thing that I find very intriguing with her is that she's very appreciative so if you put a sweater or something down for her, she'll nestle on it and then slow blink which is a cat's way of saying 'I love you or thanks'. Like below, for those who don't speak cat. There's a whole language to cats (as there probably is to dogs) and once you can read it it makes communication a bit easier. Cats are very smart and inventive.

Cats are very smart and inventive. Someone might have to teach me that supernatural language, then. My sister had a cat, and it loved her. But me, the kid that tried to be nice to it, who’s always tried to be super gentle with my pets (and paid off with several undyingly loyal canine companions), hated the absolute fuck out of me. There wasn’t a day gone by where that little shit didn’t give me a searing glare (The Buttercup to my Katniss). Maybe I just give cats bad vibes, because it’s always been the same thing. Cats love other people, I try to be friendly, and they look at me like they’re planning to murder me. The first time I met a friend’s cat, it swatted me in the face for no goddamn reason. Cats have always been smug assholes to me.

You can always try doing the slow blink at them first to show that you mean well. For a cat kiss greeting stick your nose out and see if you'll get a little kiss like below... This one should probably be on #Meowtoo
