Is anyone interested in a cup-themed game? It would be about pitching the players' selected (fiction) films against each other, always taking into consideration one aspect of filmmaking - i.e. cinematography, a particular performance and so on, until the final stage where we vote for the best film overall. For the first Cup I imagined a 2016 movies theme, what do you think? Sign-up, let's make these boards alive!

Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure if you get the numbers needed for what you're planning, I'll take part.

Cool! At first I thought about 16 or 32 but then again we can have any initial list and then make the round numbers advance. If only a few play we can also have 2 or more movies per player.

Sounds cool, although I'm not sure how it would work. Can you be more specific?

Would it be a long written format that would look like a youtube movie fight ? And we vote for the winners ? That could be nice (specially that the message board format would let the player put clip/screenshot) to explain points.

Each round focus on one aspect of the film. Imagine that in the groups phase we lean towards the technical achievements, so for example in group A we would rank from best to worst these previously nominated films, considering let's say PRODUCTION DESIGN:
Group A 1 Nocturnal Animals 2 Elle 3 La La Land 4 Arrival
As we advance in the scoreboard, other categories show up, mainly the big 8 - but now in death matches (I'll put up polls). The semis, for instance, are basically a battle of DIRECTORS. The final match is basically BEST PICTURE.

As I explained in my post above, in the death-matches phase but not only in those there will be room for campaigning.

OK, so seeing as there is the slightest interest, whoever wants to take part, SEND ME ONE FILM RELEASED IN 2016, by private message.
If needed, I'll PM you to nominate more.

How do we choose the film again? Is it one we're particularly passionate about while at the same time being more obscure to allow for more diversity?

It's totally up to you! I wouldn't nominate a very obscure film at the risk of not having enough supporters, but then again it might be fun to discover more films due to specific aspects of it.

I don't know what this is or how it works, but I'll submit a random film.

The groups phase will consist of some of the following categories, each round: Best Achievement in Sound Editing, Best Achievement in Film Editing, Best Use of Music, Best Achievement in Production Design, Best Performance #1 and Best Performance #2. Films will accumulate points that will shape our scoreboard. The death matches will happen according to the stands from the previous phase, so best ranked in Group A faces the worst ranked in Group D and so on. Let's start with the first two groups, with Sound Editing and Film Editing. GROUP A [BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN SOUND EDITING]
Julieta (Pelayo Gutiérrez) La La Land (Ai-Ling Lee, Mildred Iatrou) American Honey (Aymeric Devoldère, Raphael Sohier) Jackie (David Miranda)
Rank those four films when it comes to SOUND EDITING, with your most favorite at #1.
GROUP B [BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN FILM EDITING]
The Lobster (Yorgos Mavropsaridis) Certain Women (Kelly Reichardt) Silence (Thelma Schoonmaker) Elle (Job ter Burg)
Rank those four films when it comes to EDITING, with your most favorite at #1.

Are people only nominating and people only voting (I thought it would be an argumented fight with example) ?

Anybody can vote - and you can always make a case about any of the contenders. When we reach the deathmatches it'll be easier to make those argumented fights.
