Never been a fan of his acting but hopefully , this movie will be a great opportunity for him to show that he has some range. That being said , me thinks Timothé Chalamet would have an even more interesting pick . He even looks like a young Ted Bundy.

The previous depiction of him in The Deliberate Stranger played by Mark Harmon suggested a real different guy than what I think of with Efron - he was a more manly and less pretty guy than Efron (or Chalamet). His handsomeness was more just there and he used charm much more than looks. That is the performance of Harmon's life, no one thought he had it in him when that was done and a lot of people I think missed it at the time.
I suppose Efron could pull a Harmon and surprise people but I'd be thinking someone less of a name and older. Bundy wasn't that good looking - at one time Jason Patric would have been perfect....

I think Efron's good looking, but he may have a dark side that would be interesting for the role. I sense that about him, so that's why I approve. Agree with you on Mark Harmon's performance. It took awhile for me to be able to see him in other films without thinking of Ted Bundy! Actually, it might have taken him turning gray to finally stop seeing him as Ted Bundy. Now he looks like my late father.

The movie itself is quite flawed but holy shit Cary's performance was disturbing as F@ck . He's such an underrated talent.

How many chances is this guy gonna get before Hollywood finally disposes of him?

In terms of casting, he looks the part well enough. The question is if the script is any good.

Bundy was said to use his charm on his victims but he wasn't as handsome as Efron. That's the kind of cliché casting that I'm not sure is going to work.
I've always thought that Edward Norton would have been an excellent Bundy. Or someone like Ethan Hawke.

He really hasn't proven that he has talent... Maybe this is his chance?
On a sidenote, if Boogie Nights were made today, I think he'd be a great choice for Dirk Diggler.

I've always thought that Edward Norton would have been an excellent Bundy. Or someone like Ethan Hawke. Ted Bundy was considered very handsome though, not just charming. That's one of the things that shocked people because most serial killers didn't look like that. Norton was never handsome enough to play him. Hawke looks too dissimilar and scrawny. Mark Harmon was the perfect match.

Yikes! This isn't the tone I was expecting at all from the trailer, maybe the film will be different though. It reminds me of I, Tonya, and while that might be okay for a film about Tonya Harding, I don't think it works at all here for a film about Ted Bundy. Again though maybe the film will be completely different than what the trailer is going for.

I don't know why they'd do that for the literal scum of the earth.

He wouldn't have been my first choice but like I said about Beautiful Boy and its genre - very rarely does a serial killer genre film work because the killer himself is a self defined character - he kills, you don't so that why your should care. It's almost never enough - in this true story though the hook is not the killer, it's rather the victims who found something of themselves fulfilled, understood, justified by him. The less the story is about him, the more you can read it as an interesting tale to tell otherwise, your mind or mine at least, is likely to wander......Malkovich as a judge...........hmmmmmmmmm, that's going to be some court.

Oh God no. Do something about the tone, that’s just...wrong. I’m in it for James Hetfield tho but why the fuck is Jim Parsons here?
On another note, I watched that Netflix doc about the Bundy tapes and yea I don’t think Efron’s gonna pull this off. They should’ve gotten Ryan Gosling.

so when I first saw that title on IMDB I thought to myself, "hmmm. ok, this sounds like a black comedy and it makes me think of John Waters, that might be great," but then I see what it's about and I'm like, nooooooooooooo
No one wants a movie like this about Ted Bundy. No one. And that trailer confirms my suspicions that this will be a disaster

The fact that this might be a tone-deaf black comedy has just made me interested in this movie. At least they're doing something bold, what always pleases me.

From one angle, it's bad casting, a no-name writer, and a director whose only other narrative feature is Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (rated 4.0 on imdb).
But the trailer doesn't look bad. And the director Joe Berlinger is actually prolific and award-winning, and has found himself in a very interesting (unheard of?) situation. This premieres tmrw in Sundance; yesterday The Ted Bundy Tapes premiered on Netflix, a miniseries doc he also directed. Is there another example with this kind of timing? Andrew Jarecki with Durst is close but not quite it.
Berlinger said the script for this had a "Catch Me If You Can tone" and he wanted to push it darker, and give us "the emotional journey of Lily's experience." We'll see how the word is tmrw......

So a lot has been said about the trailer’s tone so I thought I’d share this Indiewire Review
