Do you feel reviews are hurting TLJ at all?. for repeat business. My brother is die hard everything star wars and he isn't seeing it again. He didn't like it yet he likes force awakens.

Do you feel reviews are hurting TLJ at all?. Early numbers suggest it may be in for a good holiday boost, better then what the weekday numbers would tell you anything, so I'd say not likely.

I can see that, but I'm pretty sure he's still fine with the final product unlike what fanboys might tell you.

Well, the early numbers are certainly troublesome for Star Wars' future. I still haven't seen the movie, but since I hated all of Rian Johnson's previous films I'm hardly shocked.

I bet you Disney is worried about the new trilogy. It's good to have the critics on your side but the fans are the more important factor. If they are cool on TLJ then will they trust him with another trilogy? I'm really surprised at a 69% drop that is huge and there are some Disney execs out there who can't enjoy the holidays cause of it. Ha ha.

So I wonder if Matt Damon’s bad publicity has had anything to do with Downsizing’s really poor box office performance. Of course, releasing a film like that this weekend really was a terrible idea anyways.

You may have disliked Johnson's previous films, but they were all well-received to a certain extent. Also it's hardly worrisome for Star Wars future. It's going to end up between or below 700m, and the previous second films in the previous trilogies also decreased. It just means that WOM was much more mixed then anyone anticipated. Episode IX will probably make more.

As for Star Wars' box office future, it will still be an unprecedented juggernaut of a franchise, but I'm sure Disney is worried by the initial discourse and BO performance. It will surely have an effect - some are probably already thinking of plan B for the next trilogy. They should probably go HBO way and develop several future trilogies and pick the best.

Disney isn't worried, at least I wouldn't assume yet. I'm sure they're waiting to see how well IX is received anyway. They're still going ahead with a bunch of spinoffs, some of these I actually don't think will be all that good.

Most will be successful, but it wouldn't surprise if there were a few duds. I'm shaking on Solo for example.

Who on Earth thought that was a good idea? This now makes 3 consecutive box-office bombs for Damon as a lead. Guy's had better years.

Guy's had better years. wow, isn't this Payne's first critical bomb? I wouldn't call it an all-out bomb because it seems to have a few passionate supporters, but yeah, it's his first film to get a rotten score. Downsizing's whole trajectory has been so weird. From major awards threat with lots of BP winner speculation early in the year, to very bad buzz after a bunch of test screenings with uniformly negative reactions, to a wildly successful Venice debut with 90+ on Metacritic, to critical and audience responses getting more and more polarizing until it dropped almost a whole 30 points on MC, to now barely green and a major box-office disappointment. I don't think we've seen any other film go through something quite that drastic. Also interesting that it has such disparate RT/MC scores (51% vs. 63/100).
