Part of the reason why 'The Wolverine' was PG-13 for a theatrical release is because the character Wolverine has a lot of popularity among 12-year-olds, meaning that making a full R-rated film would've been too jarring. For some reason, however, 'Logan' is now being R-rated even though this would mean that teenage fanbase would be less likely to see the film.
Some would say that the decision to make 'Logan' R-rated is justified because it's at least inspired by 'Old Man Logan', which, from what I've heard, is an extremely brutal comic series.
What do you think? Do you think they've made a right decision to make 'Logan' R-rated? Why or why not? And while we're at it, do you think 'The Wolverine' getting PG-13 was a right decision in some sense? Why or why not?

I honestly never minded the first 2 Wolverine movies being rated PG-13 because all he previous X-Men films before Deadpool were rated PG-13. Yet for some reason, I wanted Deadpool to be a hard R because the R-rating fits the character of Deadpool. An R-rated Wolverine movie kind of fits. He stabs and kills people countless times and hardly any blood in the movies unlike the comics. I guess having Logan be rated R fits because fans demanded and not to mention this Hugh Jackman's final portrayal of Wolverine, so in a way, it was the right decision.

Yep. Honestly, I had no issue with The Wolverine being PG-13, but I think the best way to adapt a storyline like Old Man Logan is was to make it rated R. It's not an especially violent story, but there are some awesome kills that happen in that particular story, and even seem to happen in the film, that it would be shame if it wound up being a bit neutered.
Additionally, after the success of Deadpool, I'd love to see more R-rated big budgeted CBM movies anyway. I think it was absolutely the right decision, especially for being Jackman's last Wolverine film, and I don't it'll have any affect on the box office, especially if the film winds up the opening with more than The Wolverine.

I just hope it doesn't come off like it's trying too hard to be all edgy. That paragraph that is supposedly in the script about it not being a "CGi fuck-a-thon" really rubbed me the wrong way and reeked of fan-fiction written by a middle schooler.

I think it was a smart move. Might as well go out guns blazing with lots of violence & blood shed .

Yeah, I suppose because now insecure kids can feel more edgy and cool for liking the same garbage with more edge. Looks all right tho.

It's parents job to make sure their kids don't see anything they shouldn't, I'm thrilled about R rated CBM movies and I'm glad studios are making them

Jackman played Wolverine for 17 year's now, so all the original fans of the first movies are way over 20, most over 25.
It had some marketing aspect (the insecure kids can feel more edgy and cool for liking the same garbage above).
And those X-men movies were seen mostly by adult anyway, even on the first weekend 55% of X-men apocalypse was above 25, so for the total run the audience above 16 must have been really high.
And chance are good that will be a difference only in the United state, in my market Deadpool was a 13+ movies, I assume it will be the same for Logan a very mild R and will be G/13/14 in many place in the world.

I like it because it makes it more likely it won't be super "safe" like 95% of other superhero flicks. Still don't have overly high hopes for it though.
