Which of these performances do you prefer?
My choice is Damon. Bullock conveys fear very convincingly, but there isn't much else required of her, beyond the impressive physical commitment - there is virtually no arc to her character. Damon shoulders the weight of this enormous blockbuster with enormous grace and diligence - in a bona fide star turn that brings out his best qualities as an actor, he is exuberant and determined.

Bullock conveys what you thought her character lacked in The Martian while Damon had zero stakes.
I'd love to see Damon in an Abba video set in space

Damon. Movie star performance. His charisma carried the movie. Gravity was more about the visuals.

Bullock. Damon's at his absolute peak and his charm does do a lot to bolster the film, but to quote the great Alfonso: Sandy B. is her film.
