... on the London stage in 2002. Reviews were decidedly mixed, with the overall consensus being that Close lacked the vulnerability and fragility of Blanche, while Glen was too patrician and too "British" to convince as Stanley... Can you see these two actors in these roles?

Not at this stage in their lives.

I could see Close as Amanda Wingfield or as Alexandra Del Lago, but she seems a very odd choice for Blanche DuBois... The reviews tend to bear that out. Glen isn't the kind of actor I personally associate with Tennessee Williams... Shakespeare or Ibsen or Chekhov, yes. He is very, very British - I don't see him convincing as a working-class American at all.

He was OK , I guess but he sure ain't Brando MVP : Jessica Lange , quite easily . Diane Lane as Stella and John Goodman as Mitch gave good performances as well.

Lange got bad notices for the 1992 Streetcar revival, whereas Alec was praised to the high heavens and received the production's only Tony nomination.

Awful casting choices I love both of them, but I have to agree... I'd love to see a filmed version of this adaptation, though!

Have you seen the Gillian Anderson/Ben Foster version? I haven't! Do you recommend? I haven't either but want to see it. A recording of it played at my local theater years back but there was a huge snow storm and I didn't wanna risk it. I heard good things though.

No worse than John C. Reilly in the 2005 Broadway revival.

No worse than John C. Reilly in the 2005 Broadway revival. Reilly wasn't as bad as his rep suggests, but the guy was perfect for the role of Mitch and they put him in the wrong role.
