Like most hobbies, there are levels of investment. I foresee myself going to the cinema, rewatching films I love, and searching for gems well into my golden years. The Oscar predictions, fantasy leagues, heavy-duty trivia and such has been fading for me and will continue to do so. In general though, films were my first love and I'll continue to enjoy them for as long as possible.

I find I go on regular, longer stretches nowadays without watching any new movies and planning to catch up at some point and update lists and make lists and so on, but I do feel less invested in all that. I've watched almost 100 2016 films, but so far I've only seen a dozen or so 2017 films. Film is still my #1 hobby, but I'm not nearly as avid about it as I used to be, and I was always a lesser kind of 'movie buff' than a lot of the people I've come to know over the years on OB / MA.

I'm always looking for more films to see for the first time, to find more classic era gems. Currency on keeping up with new releases is not a priority for me. 20th century films are generally my favorites. Maybe not at the rate I have been going (I am closing in on 750 first watches since January 1) but I will continue on. There is still so much to discover.

I am 176 now so it's a bit unclear. Basically though you can see the retirement has already happened: I could care less about seeing everything now or when I see it, I could write endlessly about a film and performance like "Lucky", but probably couldn't muster 5 words for Get Out, still haven't seen Dunkirk but can wax rhapsodic about the most obscure films what I'd call the new Modern Age - say from the French New Wave-through Apocalypse Now. I'm a movie buff from that era at least. So, by comparison I'm already out of it ...........yet on the other hand the fact that I just saw The Devil by Zulawski - a fairly important 1972 film that I had never seen - and got jump and down excited about seeing it at all - says I'm still some kind of movie buff (or a less kind term) anyway.

Probably when I'm dead. I'll be too busy haunting people and whatnot to have time for films anymore.
