it was brought up in one of my film groups and there's been a much kinder reception towards it now that there's a bit of hindsight to go off of.

It's just meh. The whole thing is just so dull and the movie's portrayal of Chris Kyle just didn't make me feel anything for the character at all. Most of Eastwood's films for the past 15 years or so have been just so fucking lifeless that it just turns me off of them most of the time.

It was good but not great. I think it would have been much better if Cooper's character was more fleshed out and if production spirit was better for the homeland scenes (the baby!).

Seen Hacksaw Ridge? nah i totally get hating it on artistic principle but ideologically speaking it's brilliant I'll have to take your word for it, it's been two years and I can barely remember it anymore. I just thought it was shockingly sloppy and lazy in most regards: editing, pacing, dialogue, character development, tension building. I'm not convinced Eastwood was even awake while making it. Hacksaw has issues of its own, but it's a major step up.

One of the best films of 2014 tbh. probs makes my top 10 of the year on ideological reasoning alone. by far the best portrait of the iraq war i've seen - with its effects on the american public. this is maybe clint's most subtext-heavy work.

Yeah. Definitely preferred Hacksaw Ridge, though that's far from perfect itself.

I thought it was fine personally. I do think the whole "jingoistic" nature of the film was blown out of proportion by some people.

Flags of our Fathers isn't bad either but the story isn't as gripping.

Hmm. Kinda dismissed this when it came out, never got around to watching it. I need to see more Clint.
