This coming after the use of A.I. in Late Night with the Devil and A24 releasing A.I. posters for Civil War. While those are more disputable as to their greater impact, this case though seems unambiguously wrong. It's doctoring images and passing them off as part of the historical record.

Studios and streamers do not give a fuck.
They'll keep doing this to see how much they can get away with before being caught. They want to get it to the point where it's pretty much undetectable and they'll never get caught, unless somebody within the production team exposes it.

Any technological change always separates creators from audience - that is not just movies.
I can say I don't like drum machines on Rock songs since 1987 ffs - but they are still there and it cuts the audience OR increases it possibly. It simply "is".....
That is what this is - to me a mild use in entertainment is not the same as a doc which purports to sell me some "truth".......so I draw "a" line.........others won't........ where do YOU as a viewer draw the line- because they won't .....and if you think they will, well when did you start liking drum machines on Rock songs?
Side note: I often get good-naturedly made fun of for giving a shit about poor writing in movies - Parasite's clear (imo) logic lapses.......... or about things I value in life: the (fucking vile) depiction of Christianity in PoS Immaculate or the reading of the obvious Biblical parallels in Banshees of Inisherin - lots of "Why you so mad, bro?" ; "Who cares, bro?".........
Well, this is the existential revenge for that ^ ..........but it's not a revenge I wished on any of us.......and I don't take any pleasure from it........I'm just saying because you loved an Art form at one time ........that Art form is at the mercy of the world in its business, ethics and Art (or Artlessness).......and as they said in Angels in America - the world only spins forward..........
Just sayin'

streamers are pumping out truecrime docs at such a factory assembly line pace that this was inevitable at some point and one could argue the use of reenactments are just as dishonest tbh. But yeah a lot of these streamer docs are mass-produced garbage and AI is just the latest ingredient in that formula.

These images were passed off as genuine and the use of A.I. was not disclosed in the credits.

Just sayin' I really think people need to reconsider their knee-jerk reaction to AI as well. It *is* the future, and throwing a tantrum that it *shouldn't* be serves no purpose. The thing to do is have a think about where we go from here and how to viably create jobs in the AI world. People will find a way to move forward - perhaps a worse way, but a way.

AI is a powerful tool but it's hardly the first. There are other ways they could've presented a false representation of Jennifer Pan without using AI. Maybe not as seamlessly but they definitely could, and if anything this story is a red flag for how Netflix may have tampered with previous docs sans AI if they were willing to do it with this one.
