That's quite strong for Civil War. Best opening for a non IP movie since Cocaine Bear.

Best opening for a non IP movie since Cocaine Bear. That is so incredibly depressing

I wonder how many people went in thinking this was part of the MCU.

Oppenheimer counts as an IP?? Based on a book technically.

I wonder how many people went in thinking this was part of the MCU. Probably 1 to 2%. To be fair, the MCU name doesn't have as much cache now, as it did it say in 2016.

Oppenheimer counts as an IP?? Based on a book technically. I mean you could technically call Cocaine Bear an established IP too if we’re gonna call Oppenheimer one. It may not be based off any specific book but the true cocaine bear story that inspired the movie is well known

Civil War's Friday to Sunday drop doesn't look that bad. I could see it holding on alight, and making like 70m.

Another interesting thing to note that I just thought about - these non-IPs opening highly are all R-rated movies (regardless of counting Oppenheimer as IP or not) rather than PG or PG-13 rated flicks for the kids. The adults want actual original content
