For his 100th birthday month - roles you could picture at some point taking a crack at: Mickey Rourke - The Wrestler Casey Affleck - Manchester By The Sea Robert De Niro - Raging Bull Gerard Depardieu - A lot in general........but weirdly not 1 specific

Richard Harris for This Sporting Life. I think Harris is flat out incredible though where he makes the character his own.

In my negative review of Civil War - I mentioned Jesse Plemons in his single scene knockout was like Brando in playing a villainous character with his own internal logic - like Brando in The Young Lions - although in some way Plemons has to do more with far less........and far more illogical character behavior around him...... He also reminded me a bit of Brando's Emmy winning Roots 2 Performance as a racist leader who irks James Earl Jones in jabbing, cruel ways......

A lot of Russell Crowe's stuff. Basically all his Big Roles.
Edit: to expand a bit- obviously Crowe wanted to be the next Brando, having a song about it and all. But the dude was seriously worthy of the title for like 5 or so years there.

Crowe in The Insider is a very Brando role / portrayal in its masculinity mixed with flowery intellect...........even in the plot points where his family feels threatened.......and in its alteration of physical appearance also ...........The Insider is essentially a kind of On The Waterfront in a way......also Serpico is also kind of On The Waterfront.............lots of things are On The Waterfront if you think about it

It's a pretty obvious answer but having recently rewatched the movie, it's crazy just how clear it is that James Dean is doing a Brando in East of Eden. And he's great!

Early Paul Newman was very much a Marlon Brando imitator, and he'd be the first one to admit that. Things like Somebody Up There Likes Me and The Left Handed Gun, felt very self-consciously Brando-esque. Heavy on the tics.
I feel by the early 60's, when he'd settled into things like The Hustler and Hud, he'd developed a style more uniquely his own, but still with some of those early Brando influences. By the time he was doing Cool Hand Luke, you could barely see any trace of Brando in his style at all. He'd become a much more relaxed and laconic performer than Brando ever was, utilising his own specific charisma, to the point that I couldn't really imagine Brando doing the kind of work Newman did in The Sting and Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid . Or later The Verdict & Road To Perdition.
Newman is a unique case study of an actor starting out as a Brando clone, then evolving into a completely different kind of actor.

Richard Harris for This Sporting Life. I think Harris is flat out incredible though where he makes the character his own. I love this mention because it is also one of the crucial prformances that you could recommend as a double feature with Raging Bull so its kind of like a path to get from Point A (Brando) to De Niro (Point C) with Harris as Point B

Leonardo DiCaprio in Killers Of The Flower Moon I was waiting for someone to say this - it's an extremely Brando role.......one of the things Brando was great at was playing guys who appear "dumb" but are "smart" in some way......you can actually chart this quality across all the acttors who followed him and who evoked him DePac, Hackman, DiCap, Nicholson............Robert Duvall is an actor like that too.......guys who appear dumb - or "simple" but have a lot going on intellectually beyond what appears.........at first......you could put Duvall in a lot of Brando roles......
