Basically the 10 years before it came into existence.
'91 - Beauty and the Beast (no question whatsoever)
'92 - Aladdin (pretty much a lock too)
'93 - The Nightmare Before Christmas (if Only Yesterday was eligible then I might be inclined to think they'd go with that)
'94 - The Lion King (those early 90s Disney features were like Pixar from '03-'10)
'95 - Toy Story
'96 - The Hunchback of Notre Dame (I'm not sure. It might win but I don't feel it's as loved as those early 90s efforts. Space Jam might be the most popular animated of the year but its reviews werent special. James and the Giant Peach...maybe but it's not a remembered movie just a classic children's book. In the end I think they go with Hunchback by default)
'97 - Anastasia (another I'm not sure but i think theyll go with that over Hercules which is a forgotten Disney main list entry and clearly a sign of a declining brand)
'98 - Antz (dont think anything matches it in reviews)
'99 - Princess Mononoke (just when it came eligible)
'00 - Chicken Run (Emperors New Groove was popular but I think Chicken Run got the best reviews)

1991, 1991, 1994, and 1995 are as obvious as can be.
With 1993 is Only Yesterday even eligible? The only U.S. release I can find for it was in 2016. Anyway, I still think they go with The Nightmare Before Christmas since it was a hit and Burton was on a heater at the time so awarding him as a producer could be an easy out.
1996 - Probably The Hunchback of Notre Dame for the Disney machine of it all even if it wouldn't be as enthusiastic a winner.
1997 - Anastasia. Weak year, but it got a score nomination and I think would provide a good alternative to a lackluster Hercules.
1998 - Antz. Always surprising to remember that it was really critically liked when it was released and though A Bug's Life received similar praise, I think Antz is the one that would've hit more with the grown ups voting in the Academy.
1999 - Toy Story 2. It was a massive hit, critically beloved, and while Princess Mononoke crossed over well I don't think it's enough to take down what is still regarded as one of the stronger Pixar works.
2000 - Yeah, Chicken Run. A big hit, very well-liked.

1991 - Beauty and the Beast
1992 - Aladdin
1993 - The Nightmare Before Christmas
1994 - The Lion King
1995 - Toy Story I once speculated that maybe more traditionalist members of the animation branch would've initially been hesitant about voting for something computer-made (similar to how they resent motion capture) but I suppose that wouldn't have made much of a difference.
1996 - The Hunchback of Notre Dame
1997 - Anastasia Hercules was pretty well received and was more successful financially but I imagine that Disney fatigue would've finally kicked in that year.
1998 - A Bug's Life Better reviewed than Antz, much better box office... I think the perception of Pixar beating DreamWorks in the battle of the computer ant toons would've helped it enormously. I'm not even sure Antz would've been nominated tbh - a lineup of A Bug's Life, Mulan and The Prince of Egypt looks mighty plausible to me.
1999 - Toy Story 2 No need to overthink it.
2000 - Chicken Run

No idea if Only Yesterday is eligible in what year, but yeah I'd agree the ones we've picked so far from '91-'95 probably overtakes it. Nightmare Before Christmas too.
Huh. I thought Antz was considered the movie that banded around the critics (something closer to Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit) while Bug's Life was mostly considered a kiddie kinda movie. It made its mark, us kiddies all saw it - but all the kids even thought it was far weaker than Toy Story. But to be fair, all the kiddies were 3 years older. I think Antz wins.
In '99 yeah I think it could go either way. This would've been the only time Pixar and Ghibli faced off against each other where it wasn't totally irrevocably obvious what movie was gonna win.

Seriously though I wouldn't count out The Prince of Egypt for 98, after all it took original song, also got into score, and did have a certain prestige factor that the Ant related movies lacked, additionally it wasn't seen as a cut below the renaissance standard like Mulan was.

Listen if a Titanic movie doesn't have a rapping dog, it's just not worth watching.

This is fair. I had forgotten it for my own post, but wouldn't be surprised if it had the juice. I loved it back in the day too.
