90s-00s is the era of my childhood... no matter what quality cinema from other eras I walk into, I'll always have a soft spot for this period. So I'm curious to see what everyone's line-ups look like... mine would be something like this (though they could be investigated further): the fab four Winslet ( Heavenly Creatures) Moore ( Safe) Blanchett ( Elizabeth; though my era of affection starts from her 2000s) Kidman ( To Die For) and then... Winona Ryder ( Edward Scissorhands) Toni Collette ( Mauriel's Wedding) Parker Posey ( The House of Yes) Juliette Lewis ( Natural Born Killers) Chloe Sevigny ( Kids cause I just saw it lol) Christina Ricci ( The Ice Storm... Joan Allen too maybe from the same film) Leaving out HBC cause I personally associate her more with the 00s.

The 90s was Winona's decade, everyone else can go piss up a rope.
Also, Winslet, also Gong Li, also Jennifer Jason Leigh, also Moore, also Diaz, also Pfeiffer, throw Tilda in there, ET had a pretty great decade, and big mouth was pretty undeniable as far as star power goes, so throw her in there to round it out.
Joan Allen is also a great pick, could easily go with her too.

These three really started exploding in the 2nd half of the decade, and kept it up till this day: Nicole KidmanCate BlanchettJulianne Moore.I feel these ones more or less peaked in the 90's, but did lovely work in that time. Michelle PfiefferWinona RyderJoan AllenGwyneth PaltrowEmily Watson
These ones had a great 90's, and did great work in later decades, but not to the extent of the first 3. Angela BassettSusan SarandonGong LiJodie FosterMichelle YeohMaggie CheungMore than 10, but whatever

Winona Ryder in my estimation outacted Daniel Day-Lewis.....twice!!! ( The Age Of Innocence, for which she was Oscar nominated and The Crucible, where a couple of cast members did better than DDL, not just Noni). That's pretty special. She was the real deal ( also easily holding her own with Gary Oldman in some of the best form of his career in Dracula). She had a short peak, but a great one.
In the 90's, she did her thing. The shoplifting thing ruined her image and career, and it's a question mark whether she could have transitioned well into older or middle aged roles....but as a young film actress in the 90's, she was outstanding. She's managed to have a solid career again, but it's a real shame she couldn't recapture her heights of the 90's.
But whatever you think Emma Stone is now or currently, Ryder was just as good of better in her 90's heyday. And she was doing it younger.
I'd also say that easily the worst casting decision of the 1990's was Francis Ford Coppola not casting Ryder for The Godfather Part Three, and casting Sofia Coppola instead. Ryder probably would have saved the movie to some extent.

***************
He did cast her so you as always are fake news .......Ryder dropped out, Ryder was sick / exhausted .........the film got nominated for 7 Oscars including BP and BD.......and later it got better without her anyway - revised cut - THE GODFATHER, CODA: THE DEATH OF MICHAEL CORLEONE (2020) sounds just fine without Kleptomania Ryder (sorry, bad joke).....

Godfather Part Three was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. It's not like it didn't get a good reception on release . That Coda vanity red-edit won't change history, perception or the awfulness of Sofia's performance/casting, or the idiocy of replacing Robert Duvall with George Hamilton. The reputation of part three will always be as a percieved massive & unessential let-down, compared to the first two. The issues with that film are essentially unfixable, no matter what some critics who wish to be kind to an old master claim.

Godfather Part Three was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. That's right - glad we agree it sure was - i know that's hard for you since your favorite actor isn't in many BP's and what not ...........and glad you apologized for saying Coppola didn't cast Winona Ryder and admitted you were wrong....again..... #FactsonlyAnyhoo - back to Winona Ryder.....I often joke that Emma Stone is the best actress BECAUSE she has a great Power Pop song about her (Emma Stone by Kurt Baker) - well Winona Ryder had A LOT of songs about her..........and not all nice either..........and this song might be the best about any actress ever ........without mentioning her by name...... Westerberg wrote TWO putdown songs of her.......didn't mention her by name either ...........

It's actually not really hard for me. My favorite actress hasn't been in many Best Picture nominees either, but is widely considered to have one of the strongest filmographies going for any actress, and is about to pick up the American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award. Which none of the other actresses of her generation are deemed worthy of getting yet, despite some of them being in far more BP nominated film. Suffice to say, I neither give a shit nor prioritise how many BP nominated films an actor I rate appeared in, but congrats to you if it matters to you

"My favorite actress hasn't been in many Best Picture nominees either, but is widely considered to have one of the strongest filmographies going for any actress" There is not a single fact in this ^ except your favorite actress hasn't been in many BP nominees...... - I do not know what "widely considered" means .....I'm widely considered to be smarter than you........I am widely considered to slap you around on MAR like a little bitch.........and while I feel that's true .........it is not itself a fact but......

You know at one time Ashley Judd would have been predcited to have a huge career of 90s actresses.....that went haywire, huh? Just not enough good movies to hold her. Ruby in Paradise, Heat, and Norma Jean & Marilyn got people excited, but her movies after that were just blegh movies, until Bug briefly but then after that kinda meh again. Wouldve been nice if Mann called her for Collateral and slotted her in that JPS role. You know how I feel about this already but Ryder > Stone and yes she was better than DDL in The Age of Innocence but that was a snooze inducing DDL performance.

Ashley Judd was blackballed by Harvey Weinstein.Mira Sorvino too, who also could have had a special career otherwise.
Both of them were Peter Jackson's first choices for roles in the Lord Of The Rings, but Weinstein blocked their casting out of spite. Both of them might have been legends in the industry if not for that man.
