Not that you'd call them overrated necessarily or even something you didn't enjoy but enough is enough ok

Well I'm not sick of the film but Do The Right Thing ends absurdly and people let it off the hook........I never thought Goodfellas was an "all timer" - or the best film of 1990...... Rear Window is great sorta....... but I'm tired of people who think it's fncking Vertigo because it's not ya fncking plebs.......

I do think Gone with the Wind is overrated and I grew tired of hearing about it years ago. The Wizard of Oz clears it all day, every day.

I think both are great but polar opposite films. Kinda like Taxi Driver and Goodfellas - the 2 most popular Scorseses, on this board at least.

Some prefers the classic murder mystery (Rear Window) genre film, while some prefers the Hitchcock double identity psychological deterioration (Vertigo) which probably personifies Hitchcock the filmmaker to the highest degree. But I think don't anyone think Rear Window is close to Vertigo in terms of mastery of the medium. I also think Psycho is pretty close to both actually..... based on the overall consensus. I think Taxi Driver and Goodfellas is way out in front for Scorsese - tho again... those 2 have polar opposite minded fans elevating them. And I've seen about 40% of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, so I'm a genuine fan.

Citizen Kane isn't even the best Orson Welles film

Citizen Kane isn't even the best Orson Welles film While I certainly have nothing but admiration for Touch of Evil, Other Side of the Wind, and F for Fake just to name a few, I'm sick of this hottake as well. Might have been true if the full 2 1/2 hour version of Magnificent Ambersons could have been made. This thread makes me feel like Woody Allen in the "I like all of those people" scene where he's arguing with Keaton in Manhattan.

I don’t think I really get the question. Do you mean you are sick of the film itself? Because like stop watching.. Or are you sick of people talking about the movie?
I find both a little silly because nobody is making you listen to them talk about it either.

I'm only sick of the idea that someone liking or holding a film in high regard that you don't somehow is a burden on you.

The adoration for all of Fincher's "classics" makes me cringe.

Good man ^.......as someone who gets shit all the time for starting threads that require some fncking thought I admire your calm, rational demeanor- this board told me that a Godfather Coda The Death of Michael Corleone thread was unnecessary - once - why? Because you don't like the PREVIOUS cut of the movie? ...........heck I got shit for a thread about DDL's 3 Male BA Oscars because it wasn't about Katherine Hepburn's 4 and her vagina.........I mean stop playing dumb, dummies of MAR....... if I was a lesser man you'd have driven me to a nervous breakdown wackadoodles - instead I just bring it up YEARS later like a sociopath ...........um : movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/thread/21700/ddls-best-actor-current-equalAlso, btw .........I'm sick of hearing about Get Out which gets treated now like it's fucking Silence of the Lambs - ............it's not good..........not scary..........not particularly funny........not a great performance by Daniel Kaluuya - who has been great but not here..........not deserving of its Screenplay Oscar.........just..............NOT ..........fuck that movie ......

Ok ill bite. I'm sick of people acting like ScarJo has any classics. She doesnt. Lost in Translation...C'EST tout.
Black Widow is just popular, they're not classics...at least in the spectrum of great movies. Her is a meme movie at this point, in the spinning trajectory downwards and nobody has talked about it in 5 years. Jojo Rabbit is another entry into hall of fame of meme....it will not last much longer. Marriage Story how many times has Baumbach made that movie. And Under the Skin 44 people have seen it, all IMDB guys who migrated elsewhere.
So yeh...I think shes fine but shes way behind '00s talents like Williams, Dunst, Blunt, early Blanchett, Adams, and Swank at least in one movie (Boys Dont Cry) bests Scarletts best performance. (Lost in Translation)

Raging Bull. It's just a beefed-up De Niro yelling and hitting people for 2 hours which IDK maybe that's the appeal but I never "got it" and I've seen it at least twice. Having seen Lindsay Anderson's This Sporting Life I couldn't help but draw comparisons and find the '63 film (also about a rage-filled outsider who uses sports to vent his aggression) to be a lot more interesting because it examines the character's violence in terms of socioeconomic status where Raging Bull's conception of LaMotta's anger feels simplistic and barely commented-on. Pesci is gangbusters and the cinematography is gorgeous but beyond that I don't get it. also just shared my thought on 2001 in the Kubrick thread. That's another that I saw twice. Didn't care for it when I was younger but had to double-take to see what I was missing, annnnd apparently it wasn't much. HAL-9000 scenes are great but the rest is just a disconnected string of trippy visuals. Really pretty visuals but not enough to sustain the tedious runtime. Another classic I don't get. I mean I understand the technical brilliance behind the camera and have the utmost respect for it, but I don't know how anyone can actually watch that movie and be invested in it. there are others but I'll leave it at that

(Lost in Translation) I wish Baumbach's film to be labled as a classic one day... no sane man can say it's not as good as that Dustin&Meryl flick that enjoyed the status decades afterwards... probably won't happen though, as it didn't do that well at the Oscars. and I only might check out Jojo one day because of Rockwell. It just looks so lame, lmao.

I'm only sick of the idea that someone liking or holding a film in high regard that you don't somehow is a burden on you. "someone" is managable; the whole world is too much! Whole world is hyperbole, but the same is true with the whole world. Why does it matter if someone else likes a classic? That truly does no harm, I mean you can at least argue modern films because it might cause more of those films to be made in favor of films of your taste or whatever, but with classics, it literally does nothing but bring joy to some people that aren't you.

isn't this thread just a safe space for some harmless venting? You can respect classics without enjoying them.

I'm actually going with Vertigo. Only because it's THE Hitchcock film that real cineastes like to wax on and on about and put in their top 10s. Psycho is Hitchcock's masterpiece. Psycho. And that Anthony Perkins performance is better than any given by your favorite actor.
Barry Lyndon can go on the list too.

Sorry to be such a goody-two-shoes but I don't think I've got any ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There're certainly classics I find overrated and so on and so forth (Is Breathless great? Nah. Is The Wizard of Oz an absolute masterpiece or merely a great film? The latter. Is Jeanne Dielman a GOAT movie? Нет.), but I don't know if I'm ever annoyed by folks talking about them. It's the opposite, actually: they've earned their place in the pantheon of cinema and it is vital that people keep talking about them. I'm more annoyed when I see attitude in the vein of: "Oh, this old thing again, fuck it. Can we just shut up about Citizen Kane being the best film ever when we've got Spider-Verse?". No, we can't, dammit!
