If the three females on the board contribute, that'd be great.

If the three females on the board contribute, that'd be great. Can't really go by this boatd....MAR is laughably, overly "sensitive" to everyone's feelings, interested in "safe spaces"...........uses the word "Patriarchy" (unironically).....thinks ONLY people who are white can be racist because others lack institutional power (that has been said and gotten likes on this board ) and that is just the tip of the iceberg which is actually not allowed to be said on MAR because it sounds like "just the tip" of a penis.......anyhoo...... *It can be sexist, but it can also not be.......I'm going to give an example of Michael P.S. Hayes when he was young before he was Dok Hendrix (Ugh) he was doing an intervview stopped - and said randomly "and ..... I'll call any broad "Baby" or anything else I want - got it - Janet Jackson?" Now THAT wasn't sexist - it as funny....and sticking up for men's rights ...........um...... .........but it's a tricky thing.......my gf calls me baby all the time, sometimes mockingly, sometimes sweetly and sometimes when I am merely behaving like an infant.........

Depends on who calls me that. If it's my mom or my boyfriend then no .But if it's some random dude then yes (not only is it sexist but it's kind of creepy too).

Come to think of it - the subject line of this thread is problematic af (um, made myself laugh) "Is it sexist to call a girl "baby"?"It can be sexist to call a woman........ a girl........ since the insistence of the word girl freezes them in a kind of post-adolescent childhood and sexualizes them through the male lens You have been reported Nik the Knife - it was nice knowing you, thanks for the laughs ........the moderators on this board will likely be sentencing you to 187 years watching Jeanne Dielman......which is basically just like watching Jeanne Dielman like 3 times or something.........may God have mercy on your soul

I get what you mean, by the fellow who's going to be your future guy has to start lowering down the wall sometime. How should he know when is the proper time for the first "baby" call?

It's not something that's used in Italian. We don't use bambina, bimba, piccola or something (unless you want to scold someone like, kid come here and clean the table where you left a dirty dish). We usually say ragazza or donna (girl or woman). People on the streets might use other gross words though. I noticed young guys use the English term "bitch" sometimes though.

I mean I haven't seen it, but if it's anything like a Reichardt, I'm gonna love it. Put me in the jail, not my film experiences...

Actually, it's quite great - it's just long and very slow..........which the movie then USES as an argument for how great it is.......sort of like The Irishman but that just had a bunch of old dudes in it so basically it's also nothing like The Irishman at the same time........

As I have proven on here time and time again (and Mexico fans last night after getting spanked DOS A CERO in futbol), the most “problematic” person you will ever meet (and the SaViOr Of ThE wHiTe RaCe) is in fact the Latino While a lot of us do indeed identify as white, the gringo picks and chooses when to slap the “POC” label on us like your local drunk Protestant priest preaching the Bible. If we’re poor, undocumented migrant workers then we’re POC but the second most of us open our mouths we become white. Just ask the Cubans. Or the Venezuelans in a few years time. The Biden admin is shipping Venezuelans into the country in droves but it’s gonna be hilarious when that plan backfires spectacularly and we just end up being the Cubans on steroids

To answer the thread question, no it’s not sexist - although I prefer to use the word “mamacita” for my ladies

If you have to ask if something is sexist, chances are it is.

If you're willing to say it to anyone, it isn't.

If you're willing to say it to anyone, it isn't. Isn't "baby" a romantic term, though? Certainly that's how I view it. I can't imagine calling anyone "baby" unless I'm very close to them romantically. That isn't sexist at all, but exclusive. It is reserved for a special case. The other option for me is a flippant use as punctuation, which isn't sexist as it could be directed at anyone, baby.

Obviously if you're in a relationship with someone and call them "baby," that's fine so long as they're good with it. But I'm guessing this question is referring to someone outside a relationship; otherwise, why ask us instead of asking the SO?
