Can I just say none of them?
Ok....Steve McQueen seems oddly omitted. He wouldve been who I wouldve marked if he was here.
I cant see any of your selections winning anytime soon.
This is just a random guess
But for me...im also thinking Ben Affleck. Hes not actually overdue because even if I like him (not that hes amazing but I just like the dude enough) - this board seems to laugh at him.
I can just see him barging back after Live By Night wasnt well received. Hes a workhorse, he has tons of chances lined up, hes well liked by the academy as long as he gets that key project...maybe he can prove Live By Night was just a blip. and hes kinda the Warren Beatty of his time. If Beatty eventually baited them to an Oscar, I think Afflecks time will eventually come.
As for assigning the overdue tag to some of these names, I think the Lynch and Mann stans are gonna object to their erasure. Just a thought.

Steve McQueen already won Best Picture for 12 Years A Slave.
Ben Affleck hasn't done a movie close to the Oscar race in 11 years since Argo(2012).
David Lynch hasn't made an actual feature film in 18 years since Inland Empire(2006).
Micheal Mann's recent movies haven't struck the heart of Academy voters (not that it means much in the bigger picture and in the long term) and doesn't work frequently like Ridley Scott who keeps churning out movies like candies, plus his next movie is Heat 2, hardly suited for awards season.

Ok I thought you meant Director. In that case Afflecks won Picture too. But....it doesn't matter how long the layoff is between their last nominated project imo. Someone can always get back into the fold anytime if they have the right project. And if winning Best Picture disqualifies you, hasnt Scott also won Best Picture?

Fincher will die an Oscarless man, sadly... Scott will never matter that much no more, Miller could pull a Glazer one day if he has the right material, Tarantino has one film left in him -or so he says- so no, DOR definitely no like why is he even here, Wes is too weird and if he ever wanted to "compromise" it would've happened by now.
The rest are more likely I'd say, with PTA or Lanthimos leading the pack.

And if winning Best Picture disqualifies you, hasnt Scott also won Best Picture? Gladiator won Best Pic but Scott wasn’t one of the winning producers, so he’s still Oscar-less.

Agreed with @nikan here. I’m thinking Yorgos or PTA are the next most likely. Fincher I think is a distant third.
Wes just won for live action short and his stuff doesn’t seem to usually click with the Academy, so I think his win will be seen as sufficient for him.
Tarantino is possible, but again already has two screenplay wins, so there’s less of a rush with him. Ridley doesn’t seem to do well with the Academy at all lately.

I still think the Academy may go all in on The Movie Critic, if it truly is QT's last.

QT is seeming likely for Movie Critic esp that being his last film, but not BP since his films are usually not the kind that do win BP.
Yea, if McQueen was here, objectively he feels likeliest for both director and BP given all the buzz for Blitz.

None of these people are "overdue" except PTA, Wes, and Ridley. Maybe Fincher should have gotten at least BD for Fight Club.
Anyway, Tarantino has the biggest upcoming project. I'm sure they'll make sure to get Gerwig one at some point as long as she continues doing things that are on any level "baity". I still think Fincher could win one day with the right project. The rest are either too idiosyncratic or too old/washed.

Gladiator won Best Pic but Scott wasn’t one of the winning producers, so he’s still Oscar-less. Well Wes Anderson has an Oscar too, just not for directing or producing. Not sure what this guys criteria is. Besides, producing credits is often 1/5 or 1/4...so McQueen has a quarter of an Oscar? It's best to have directing be the sole decider because that's a solitary award and emphasizes the individual's contribution to the movie. That would not confuse everyone, and it shows excellence of someone's personal contribution to the movie.

I don't think anyone believes he's the most overdue, but he has a fat chance to win the soonest.

Lanthimos more overdue than PTA??? LOOOOL!! You are all insane! Says the turtle who apparently didn't read his own poll. "Which overdue filmmaker will be next to win Picture and Dir?" which is asking for us to predict who we think we will win next, not who we think should win next.
