Think about your own feelings towards it and not the movie itself per se... Like I can't find a fault in it. It's so perfect it's almost boring and in terms of characters... Norma - who is very much the center of everything - is so exaggerated (but not "untruthful" and is brilliant on her own)... But I love how the characters in All About Eve (where Davis is not all that you have to talk about when it comes to the movie since every damn person there is memorable and ring true to life) and In a Lonely Place (not even Bogie and Grahame "only" but even his friend who gets a taste of his anger near the end is heartbreaking) feel like alive and rich people when you think back on those films... I really can't say that to the same amount when it comes to David Lynch's favorite film.

I kinda have to say overrated. I like it but it's not one of my 10-20 favorite movies of all time which is what its reputation is.

Overrated. I didn't hate it or anything, but given the reputation it has and how much I like a number of other Wilder films (Witness for the Prosecution and Stalag 17 in particular), I found it underwhelming.

A little overrated maybe. The narration annoys me, but it's otherwise pretty great. You want to talk about overrated, look at the thing that beat it at the Oscars.

Just right - it's an all-timer film..........not just in that it's revisionist IN the Golden Era itself - about Hollywood - which is real early (like In A Lonely Place) and like Scarlett Street it more than just hints at sexual favors in exchange for material gain - prostitution, loss of self and a seamy underbelly......which is a dumbass expression....all underbellies are seamy....that's why they're underbellies...... People saying it's overrated are frightening .......possibly psychotic to me.....what no kittens to kick today, ya miserable fnckers

I think it's fabulous and rated correctly as the masterpiece it is and nearly every "underside of Hollywood" satire made since lives in its shadow. Wilder's characterization of Norma Desmond particularly (and Swanson's brilliantly self-aware take) were way ahead of their time.
In a Lonely Place is great too and every bit as stinging. Talk about a double feature.

I love cats, I'd never kick a kitten. I'd 100% kick a puppy though.

Just right - maybe my favorite classic noir and would probably appear in the bottom half of my top 100 films overall (I only keep a top 50 though).
