Figures as much since it's been 14 years since his last film, but still a bummer to hear. Any particular favorite film of his? The Truman Show is one film I can't help but watch every time its on tv.

Seemed a given by this point, but I'm one of those who had indeed held out hope. He's left us plenty to treasure anyway. Much appreciated, legend. I think Picnic at Hanging Rock is still numero uno for me.

Holy sh-t I'm just looking at his filmography. He's made so many good movies. What a legend!

Not a surprise since he's 80 and hasn't made a movie in 14 years. Cool that Sheeshaw got to work with him at the end. Truman Show is my favorite from him as well.

Love this man. Picnic at Hanging Rock, Truman Show, Master and Commander -- all masterpieces completely distinct from each other. He leaves a damn fine legacy and has more than earned his retirement.
