If only someone other than Denzel had 'discovered' Austin, we'd be spared all this nonsense Why? I think he’s a great actor. Finally someone in the new generation who’s hyped and has talent. Pup's nonsense. I have no issue with Austin.

The guy still likes my posts sometimes, even though he knows I 've blocked him and have zero interest in any interaction with him. Just bizarre behavior. Quite sad really. (and chuck, hi asshat) And good day to you, you silly bastard!

As an aside, The Lord Of The Rings trilogy parallel is one of the reasons I eventually saw the Dune series as producing a serious acting contender. It was Ian Mckellen for that series, but I felt if Dune Part Two were in the mix, I believe actors branch support would fall behind either Butler or Rebecca Ferguson ( or if things were very fortunate, both of them).

I think the real emotional fulcrum of the franchise appears to be Zendaya, especially with what they've given her here, and the potential arc they're setting up for her in the third film. They are taking major departures from Chani's book depiction, and for the better, I think.

Probably bumps Glazer out of the BD lineup and gets a bunch of techs. Butler would have a chance at a supporting actor nod with how barren the category was this year but nobody was beating RDJ who had a super obvious "career achievement" narrative.

This year was stacked as hell. Downey, Gosling and De Niro weren't budging, at least one of the Poor Things boys was getting in, and American Fiction had a solid surge that got Brown in, but you had Sessa, Melton, Howerton, Mescal, Damon, etc. all in the wings as well.

No way Villeneuve would have gotten into a far stronger director lineup when he couldn't even make it into the rather weak one of 2021. Visual Effects (and maybe Sound) would have been the only win, Oppenheimer and Poor Things were far too strong in the other techs.
Moving it to 2024 was the best decision for its Oscar prospects.

I think it could bump Past Lives out of Picture and get a lot of tech support, beating Poor Things in Makeup and dominating VFX. It's hard to tell where else it could win or get support as the top contenders this year were also tech juggernauts and the first Dune already won a bunch.
Adapted Screenplay and Director are both tough. It would have to leapfrog The Zone of Interest, but asking a geeky sci-fi movie to usurp a big Holocaust drama feels like a tough ask. Its best chance in the acting categories would maybe be Rebecca Ferguson in a very weak category and now drumming substantial support with the speculation on who was giving her shit (assuming the press tour in this hypothetical would be identical to this timeline).
In all, I expect the people who would go to bat for Dune: Part Two would also have been likely to gravitate towards Oppenheimer so it gets lost in the shuffle against other, more novel contenders. It has a better chance this year where the only movies dealing in its kind of epic and tech showcase-y realm are Furiosa, Gladiator 2, and the theoretically possible but more unknown Megalopolis and Kinds of Kindness.
