* Which of these matchups that never happened would you have most liked to see? In general.........what's the greater GOATs "missed opportunity"? (Apologies to Dustin Hoffman but he doesn't quite fit - maybe a different thread!) * Pacino interacts with Hackman in Scarecrow..........De Niro interacts with Nicholson in The Last Tycoon and they both interacted with Brando so............that's as good a top 5 Americans as any........
* This isn't a poll.........because .......I just want to annoy people basically

Looking forward to seeing you dealing with all the random attack-bot posters who would come after me if I started a thread called GOAT WAR with Denzel in the title. Certain people here would lose their shit . "We get it man, you think he's the GOAT, we get it. Why you gotta remind us again" Good luck man.

"posters who would come after me if I started a thread called GOAT WAR with Denzel in the title" Yeah because he's not a GOAT I guess and people don't like you .........

Nah....it's literally the same 5 or 6 posters who do the attacking . Some of which I've had to block recently. I always know which ones it's going to be. I get along fine with the vast majority of people here. As for claiming Denzel isn't a GOAT, that's such a ridiculous assertion at this point, that it's not even worth debating or taking seriously. Of course he's one of them. Now if you claimed he wasn't the GOAT, then sure, that's a conversation that can still be entertained.

Bobby and Gene could have done a great heist movie together (both starred in Heist and The Score in 2001) but I am more intrigued by the charisma fireworks between Jack and Al. It's more to do how the careers were intertwined in some ways (Jack offered The Godfather, Al offered The Departed and both played Jimmy Hoffa). Both playing rival mobsters would have been epic.

Thanks walls! What I think is interestng if DePac didn't do Heat - they had "almost" teamed up A LOT prior......you could have gotten a Pacino-Nicholson casting coup for Heat - Nicholson being an LA guy after all...THE LA guy actually......... who played a memorable, obsessed cop around then too - even later actually (The Pledge, 2001) and could have been Vince maybe..........and Pacino could have been McCauley if he "had" to be ............ Btw, I don't know if you ever saw Chinese Coffee but Hackman in the Orbach part would have been an amazing actng back an forth reunion....Nicholson could have played that Orbach part too if I'm just fishing for stuff that actually got shot......that's not a "big" movie ..........but if Nicholson took a smaller part I'd like to see that............and the 2 characters do yell at each other

Not sure if it would have made sense but to have two actors with similar acting styles who are highly charismatic would have been epic. I haven't seen Chinese Coffee but I do love me some Jerry Orbach (was so convincing as Landau's troubled brother in Crimes). I think the perfect time to have done a Jack and Al collaboration would have been in the 01-03 years where both were more weathered (played world weary cops in The Pledge and Insomnia). Can you imagine Nicholson in Williams' role in Insomnia 🍺🍺

Seriously, a film in the 70s or 80s (even 90s) starring both Al Pacino and Jack Nicholson would have blown out the screen for how much charisma and swagger was in there.

LMFAO at the Denzel fanatic polluting the air because his boy's name is excluded from a "GOAT" conversation As to the question, the answer has to be Al and Jack for the aforementioned charisma fireworks. Another interesting parallel is they both played standout villains in eye-popping comic book adaptations in back-to-back years ( Batman/ Dick Tracy), with both scored by Danny Elfman. However, while I don't think he was ever seriously considered, I've always maintained that I would have loved to have seen Hackman play Nicholson's part in The Departed, with De Niro taking on Sheen's role if beefed-up. Those two facing off in a Scorsese mob movie would have been ever so satisfying.

LMFAO at the Denzel fanatic polluting the air because his boy's name is excluded from a "GOAT" conversation As Nope, exclusion had nothing to do with it ...I did it because everyone knows Pacinoyes does exactly what I do with Denzel for Pacino ( If not even moreso on this board. It's close ) , but I'm the one who has to field constant attacks for my support, while those few hypocrites that attack me pretend he's not doing the same thing. I even give Pacinoyes a bit of credit for supporting Washington with the zest I do. I saw how he did it for Pacino on IMDB and how effective it was for him, and simply followed suit. If it's good for him, it's good for me. Simple as. Anyone chooses to come after me for that, but says nothing while Pac manages to frame 80% of his conversations or threads on how great Pacino is, I consider a hypocritical bastard. And that would include you at this point. I got no problem with Pac supporting his guy like he does. I actually kind of admire it. I just dislike the hypocritical cunts who choose to ignore the same behavior in someone else.

De Niro and Hackman might have been fun in a comedy too with De Niro in the Travolta role in Get Shorty - those late career comic perfs by Hackman are so much fun.......and loose and freewheeling Also for the part I bolded ^ this isn't even his most "wtf is wrong with him?" moment - see the link below - I didn't even start that thread below and he had a mini-stroke anyway ......... look how long his post is........it's comic gold I swear ...... movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/post/432891

Quit crying about it and go enjoy the sanctity of the Denzel thread, where you and your lapdog are free to grease palm each others peckers with only the occasional stray overhead missile.

If you dislike what I have to say and no longer wish to read it, I'd advise you to block me back. Thanks

I guess it doesn't behoove me to type any of this, but you're proving me correct boyo, in that your thin skin can't withstand any anti-Denzel fervor. I've actually always liked you, and have definitely shelled out a lot more shit toward pacinoyes over the years....until you went totally off the rails with your overzealous, insufferable, and frankly delusional Denzel grandstanding in recent times. Don't believe we ever had a quarrel at IMDb, and I've barely posted on this board since its inception, so I don't know how you're going to mount some massive case that I'm constantly baying for your flesh. But whatever helps you sleep at night!
As for "doing me a favor by engaging me in discussion"...fuck off

Anyways, aside from all that drama, I'll admit this wasn't actually a bad idea for a thread.
I'd agree with whomever said that Pacino and Nicholson at any point in the 70's, 80's or 90's would have been a fascinating combination. Actually, I think them together in the 70's would have been less of them trying to steal scenes from each other than in later decades.
I don't know what combination of film/role I'd see DeNiro and Hackman sizzling together with though.

Since this is a Gene Hackman lovefest day .......maybe we should think of a role Hackman could have played WITH Brando since DePac and Jack did and Brando? Brando turned downn The Conversation.......um.........maybe they could have done The Missouri Breaks? with Hackman replacing the Jack role.....
