Dune II has already surpassed the gross of the first in a week. At what point does this start to make a profit? I find it very hard to understand the scope of these Dune films and budgets and stuff like that?

I find it very hard to understand the scope of these Dune films and budgets and stuff like that? Given its budget, and the alleged 2.5 breakeven point, probably over 400m worldwide. It's at 223m worldwide, as of this writing, and it should wind up with over 600m worldwide when all is said and done.

Hollywood accounting means these Dune films will probably never make an official profit. The money will be hidden They will still make a lot of people insanely rich though.

Amazing that the IRS will audit people over 100k (or less) in back taxes but these guys can blatantly hide hundreds of millions of dollars and they're ok with it.

Isn't that basically the (practical) definition of the whole tax system? We family earners hand over every penny of our savings in end of year taxes while grabbing news of the huge tax write-offs "earned" by biggest corporations everywhere

Best box office weekend this year by some distance, thus far.
