Worst Leonardo DiCaprio snub?? These are all performances that obtained at least one awards precursor.
That's why i didn't add The Basketball Diaries, Romeo + Juliet, Shutter Island, The Great Gatsby, or Don't Look Up.
Vote.

Rev Road. Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke haven't acted that well in their entire lives. I love Spicoli though.

The best performance out of these is pretty easily Catch Me If You Can to me, with Django Unchained as a firm runner-up.

Ranked based on preferrence of performance (than like comparison to noms that year and silly things like that ). 1. Django Unchained2. The Departed2.5. Shutter Island (hoped he'd get in) 3. Catch Me If You Can4. Killers of the Flower Moon5. Titanic5.5. Don't Loop Up (thought he'd get in) 6. Revolutionary Road

Django......the movie hits a different gear when he comes in and drops like a rock when he leaves.....one of the few roles you could picture Brando playing ...........actually that role is even played by DiCaprio in a Brandoesque way (reliance on manner, charm and acting props).......also it's a straight up villain which sets it apart......
I say this all the time it is never about the one you get it's the ones you miss that more define an actor ......

I don't think any of them are pretty egregious. Yeah, looking at the list of options, I'd agree. He wouldn't make my line-up for any of those performances. He's got some very good performances there ( like Catch Me If You Can) and one or two I don't rate all ( Titanic), but none that I'd say absolutely demanded Oscar nods. I thought Matt Damon was the better lead actor performance in The Departed, and I don't nod Damon either. Though The Departed would have been a better nomination than Blood Diamond, which for me is his weakest and least merited nomination. The closest would be for Django Unchained, where he is pretty fantastic. He's very close to my line-up for that. The problem for him is, Samuel L Jackson is even better than him in that film as a supporting actor, and would be my winner that year.

The Departed is the only one here I could maybe consider but the reason he didn't get in that year was because he got in for Blood Diamond (a far weaker performance), so by rights it shouldn't even be on this list.

His Blood Diamond nomination is so strange. I'm not sure what stood out about that performance as Oscar worthy. Maybe he was nodded for the overcooked Rhodesian/Afrikaans accent, which some voters may have misconstrued an an acting stretch. I didn't love him in The Departed ( he was way too twitchy to be believable as an undercover cop. He acted like a rat in front of the gangsters. That always bothered me). But he was still much better in The Departed than Blood Diamond.

It's a tricky accent to master without sounding phony, and unfortunately DiCaprio doesn't fulfill the brief. I do think he's quite good in The Departed and wouldn't have begrudged an Oscar nomination for it, but I don't think him missing for it would've been odious either.

There're two ways to answer this question.
The one that makes the least sense to me is Django Unchained: a meaty, marvelously performed villain role in a Quentin Tarantino film should've been an easy nomination for him, especially with that Weinstein "Leave DiCaprio to me" spiel. That's why I'm clicking on this option in the poll.
Performance-wise, though? Killers of the Flower Moon which is one of the most complex and adventurous things he's ever done.

Not really sure how people can say with a straight face that some of these aren't somewhat egregious tbh - one of them is for the biggest film of all time whch got nominated for everything EXCEPT him and that one has 0 votes?

This is a little like asking for the worst time the Patriots got screwed by the refs.......
That said, he should have won for Django Unchained, I'd have given it to him for that rather than Revenant. Maybe he'd slip into my lineup for Revolutionary Road or Gatsby despite the latter not being on the list. Other than that he's good and had no business getting nodded for whatever he was doing in Blood Diamond.

It's not a mystery why he was nominated for Blood Diamond. He very credibly plays a charismatic antihero who has a great character arc. His last scenes with Djimon and then with Connelly on the phone are some of the most powerful acting moments in film history and it was palpable in the theater when I saw it. But okay, you didn't get it...

I've only seen it once, but just got taken out of it so much by DiCaprio's accent ( which felt jarring/distracting to me), that it's possible I missed the nuances of the performance that you are describing. Who knows, maybe the accent won't bother me much in a rewatch. I'm always up for giving films/performances I initially disliked another chance if someone sells me enough to try, and you have

Sorry I was a bit bitchy there. I'm genuinely taken aback that some people hate that performance. I just find it so antithetical to my sense of reality.

What's crazy is PTA was a spectacular talent. Boogie Nights is probably the greatest film directed by someone under the age of 30 (give or take George Lucas with American Graffiti). But he pivoted into pretentiousness, first with Magnolia, which is an abomination. Then he bounced back with PDL, but said "Fuck story" for good and became a marginal figure. The Hateful Eight is eons better than anything PTA has done besides Boogie Nights.
