I always say that a big part of the "Brando GOAT aura" is that he - at times - had a kind of disdain for acting or if you're being less nice, a laziness..........certainly Rourke would apply in that way too........does it matter to you? Does an actor need to "care more"? Does it make them "better" to care more?
Can you think of other examples - I'm not talking about bad experienes on a specific movie - I'm looking for "acting is stupid type stuff"

Mitchum didn't think very highly of it (or himself, don't remember exactly).

If you don't respect acting, don't do it. This poseury "I'm above it" stuff is childish.

Anthony Hopkins said to Brad Pitt actors are stupid. Hopkins, despite being a master actor, doesn't take it seriously at all.

If you're a millionaire actor who has contempt for acting, why keep doing it? Why not go practice a "useful" metier now that you're financially secure? It just smacks of someone trying to appear more profound than they are. "Look at me, I'm so damn real and down to earth, I got more in common with firefighters and teachers and shit! People who do real jobs!"

I went back and forth on if he qualifies for what you're looking for, and ultimately think it does if you look at him from a bit of a different perspective...Burt Reynolds. Now, Reynolds was never lazy about working, but he got far too comfortable playing his "lovable, fun-having good ole boy" shtick in B-movie fare because he didn't want to lose his fanbase or stretch his acting muscles. The amount of plum roles Reynolds turned down is legendary, but perhaps none more so than Terms of Endearment, which was written for him and which he would have smashed out the park. Instead, he opted to Stoker Ace When he finally took an A-movie role ( Boogie Nights), he killed it, but proceeded to deride his work, the movie, and PTA.

Good one ^ ..........if Reynolds got nodded for Starting Over (I think both co-stars did?) it may have put him on a different path actually........instead he's kind of like Charlie in Mean Streets getting dragged down by his very own Johnny Boy (Hal Needham)
