I've decided to pretend that Chastain / Pacino Lear thing will actually happen - it may not! - and that got me thinking of A Thousand Acres (1997) - which I have seen but don't quite remember that well tbh .......and which stars a Triple Crown winning American GOAT across all 3 mediums - as "Lear"....J ason Robards as "Larry Cook" .........and an ace supporting cast of (Triple Crown winner) Lange, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Colin Firth and more............ .......now I will have to give this a rewatch .......but I remember Lange being sort of excellent and not much else even being good...........and being really pretentious.......so what are the biggest ones "like" this for you? Not saying A Thousand Acres is that bad either - it's sort of vanished from my brain ......... but what is a movie you'd call "Pretentious Bullshit" on immediately........

Yes, that's a terrible movie.
Shout out to Branagh's Hamlet. It's very good, but... Branagh doing a complete Hamlet on that scale with that cast? That sets a pretty high bar.

Your darling Roma and Belfast. Plus his aptly-named "weightless" trilogy:

This is Garland's M.O. as a director. Oh, Aronofsky's an even worse fucking offender.

- Biggest Disconnect Of Intent vs Result
Oh, this one's easy: Jonathan Glazer has been going on about The Zone of Interest being his attempt to strip away the artifice of filmmaking... but the movie itself ended up feeling as artificial as anything I've seen in a long time, one artificial (even gimmicky) choice after another. Even if it's still an interesting experiment.
