How do you see these two categories going? Will the BAFTA success of Poor Things continue at the Oscars? Or will Barbie pull a Black Panther? Or maybe someone's predicting a split?
I'm predicting Poor Things to take both but Barbie is a genuine threat. Maybe AMPAS will just default to pink houses and doll-inspired costumes (not that the work is undeserving, of course), like I was thinking for most of the season... but I'm kind of feeling Poor Things now.
At the same time, it's crazy to think that it's quite possible for Poor Things to lose all of its 11 nominations with Barbie winning PD & CD, Gladstone winning BA and Maestro winning Makeup (dunno if Poor Things has a chance in the other categories... a slim one in Adapted maybe?). Joining The Turning Point and The Color Purple would be a very strange way for it to end its awards run and yet it may very well happen.

Oh, I forgot to put an obligatory "Something else wins" option in the poll... well, if you think Napoleon, KOTFM or Oppenheimer are taking either category, do tell us!

Oh, I forgot to put an obligatory "Something else wins" option in the poll... well, if you think Napoleon, KOTFM or Oppenheimer are taking either category, do tell us! Last year, All Quiet won PD, without any precursor wins. BP2 won CD over Elvis, which was the favorite among the Guild and BAFTA.
Production Design The ADG went for Oppy and Poor Things. BAFTA sided with Poor Things. Critics Choice went with Barbie. At the moment, I am going with Barbie. I think the production design is already iconic and goes along with the humor of the picture.
Costume Design We have 2 major wins for Barbie and 2 major wins for Poor Things. I am going to lean Barbie. The clothing they wear is also iconic and unique too.
I might change my mind. I think it is going pink.

Honestly all 4 possibilities feel equally likely. I’ll say Barbie for costumes and Poor things for production design.

A tough one because it is only with the Oscar where we will see the full reaction of the Academy to both films. They could trade off (costume design is one category more than any other where it does not get caught up in tech sweeps) and in that scenario I think Poor Things Costume, Barbie PD. But either could take both, as we will see did only part of the academy love one or the other. Barbie has shown more weakness overall, and maybe it will lose everything except Song, and we might all be saying "I guess the academy felt obligated to nominate it" or this is where it hits big and it wins both of these, song and adapted screenplay. I could see either happening.

It would be a shame if Barbie gets completely blanked. My wish is it at least get recognized for the great costumes of its huge ensemble.
