..........or "previously filmed"..........I added "the most" since remakes are rarely good.......... Pacino's been in 4 good ones (Scarface, Scent of a Woman, Heat (from TV), Insomnia).........Jessica Lange has been in A LOT of 'em off the top of my head - King Kong, The Gambler, Cape Fear, Lange Long Day's Journey Into Night, Postman Always Rings Twice, Night and The City....... * How about actors who have their BEST performance in a remake? * Anybody particularly good - repeatedly - at this usually "bad idea"?

I think you nailed the two big ones with Pacino and Lange.
You definitely have to give credit to Julianne Moore here, too - daring to recreate as many iconic cinematic characters as she has is ballsy, to say the least - Lila Crane, Clarice Starling, Margaret White... And then of course she's paying homage to Jane Wyman in Far from Heaven.

I don't really like calling new adaptations of stuff remakes, but I liked Naomi Watts quite a lot in her Painted Veil (Painted Veil, 1934) her King Kong (King Kong, 1933) The Ring (Ringu, 1998), Funny Games (Funny Games, 1997), Diana (Downfall, 2004), and of course she's going to be in the new Emmanuelle too.

After watching " Steve!" recently, I was thinking of Steve Martin. He had been in, at least, three remakes (" Father of the Bride", " Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", " Little Shop of Horrors") that are arguably more popular than their originals now? " Pennies from Heaven" is generally deemed as a flop but it has mostly good critical scores and got three Oscar noms. Some of his other stuff received mixed reception but were box office success regardless (" Cheaper by the Dozen", " The Pink Panther"). He had two flops (" Mixed Nuts", " Sgt. Bilko"). And of course, " Roxanne" is basically a Steve Martin version of "Cyrano de Bergerac".
