So far, only Olivia de Havilland (a triple citizen of the UK, the US, and France) has held the honor... Greta Gerwig will serve as the 2024 Jury President, but she is truly a jack of all trades. Which American actress, known solely for acting, would you most like to hold the honor?

Jodie Foster, who I could've sworn was a jury president at some point.

Jodie Foster, who I could've sworn was a jury president at some point. She was meant to be, in 2001! She joined ‘Panic Room’ after Kidman backed out, though, and she couldn’t do both with the filming schedule. Liv Ullmann replaced her.

Somehow I knew I'd see a Julianne Moore photo here And yeah, why not? Either her or Julia Butters.

She's not known solely for acting though, she's also known for not winning Oscars.

Fully behind the Julianne Moore idea.

But she's also known for making difficult decisions at the heads of tables, so she would be perfect

Jodie Foster makes sense, of course. They love her flawless French-speaking self, so what's the deal with them not asking her again?

Sigourney Weaver, who also speaks French fluently would be a good shout.
Perhaps in anticipation of Avatar 3 being released next year. Good promotion for the film and the festival. Also Weaver just got the Goya Lifetime Achievement Award in Spain, so it feels right that France should give her a major distinction in their film industry next. She's an iconic, global film legend and not getting any younger ( she looks absolutely incredible for 74 years old though. Her genetics must be something else). Her time should be now.

Have Jane Fonda and Shirley MacLaine aged out of it, you think?
Some others (in addition to Moore, Foster, and Weaver) who are truly beloved, internationally:
Diane Keaton Michelle Pfeiffer Meryl Streep
In some years' time, perhaps?
Scarlett Johansson Natalie Portman Kristen Stewart Michelle Williams

Scarlett Johansson Natalie Portman Kristen Stewart Michelle Williams I'd say Fonda and Maclaine have aged out of the role. They're in their late 80's. The oldest Cannes Jury President was Rene Clair at 75. Even if they hadn't aged out, it's also about having some current relevance (even though they are legends). Fonda has been working a fair bit in the last few years, but she hasn't come close to regaining the relevance of her prime with any recent project. Weaver is fortunate to be a major part of the multi-billion dollar Avatar franchise, which keeps her currently relevant as a film star. Keaton is close to ageing out, and again, while a legend, may struggle to be considered currently relevant (which I sense is important for Cannes when they select actors to be the Jury President). Streep will probably always be considered. Surprised she hasn't done it already. Pfieffer maybe. I feel like being part of one of Marvel's recent flops ( Ant-Man: Quantumania) isn't going to be enough for Pfeiffer to be percieved to have current relevance. I'm sure all the younger ones you mentioned will be considered at some point. Definitely for jury membership, if not for the president role itself.

pupdurcs - Portman and Stewart have served on the Cannes jury before! (Coincidentally Stewart has already been the jury president of Berlin.) I'm not sure that Williams is as famous/beloved internationally as Johansson, Portman, and Stewart, but I think she'd be a great pick.

I know that her career has cooled, but she's still hugely popular, globally - in France alone, she's the spokesperson for two big brands: Lancôme and Chopard.
