*sigh* I like the play a lot. It is perhaps the only musical that melds political maneuvering, propaganda, terrorism, etc. into its narrative. I wish the play had gone further into those themes, but I understand why it positions them in the background - most people wouldn't watch a musical about war crimes and politicians gaming the system to make themselves look good (granting them power and luxury). This teaser just looks dreadful. That makeup The little snippets of music The D-list CW acting If nothing else, the play has *energy* when it is done right, and this looks weighted and dead. It's just a teaser, but uuuugh.

So they really just watched Oz the Great and Powerful and were like, yep holds up.
I don't understand how two different filmmakers for two different studios get a golden opportunity to expand The Wizard of Oz on a major visual scale in the 21st century and both times are just like "Well obviously it would look like this!"

At least Raimi's colors didn't look washed out (in fact he went a bit too far in the opposite direction... which is still better than the pale shit we see here).
