So I watched Ed Wood, which was sweet enough. I'm a bit baffled by the acclaim - it is a fairly standard biopic, only it is about an unabashedly nice and unremarkable man this time around. Decent enough, but the end credits aren't done rolling and I'm already forgetting it.

Chungking Express (rewatch)
The first act is soooo boring. Just get over her, loser. But the second act almost - almost - redeems this through a kickass soundtrack and the sex appeal of Faye Wong. I can't buy the central romance of the second act - one that is built entirely upon people acting like aliens instead of human beings with survival instincts - but it's so sweet that I can almost forgive it.

Quiz Show (Rewatch)
Ralph Fiennes getting snubbed is a crime, first of all (this is his best performance).
Anyway, this is just spectacular. A movie on truth (it will set you free) and the innate desire to be entertained, fooled, bamboozled by performers who are there to show us a good time. Redford controls this so tightly, with such careful camera movements and editing that it never fails to be utterly engrossing. This was a 9 star movie movie before this watch, and I think I'll bump it up a full 10. It's that good.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
This would be a really good 30 minute film, but at 100 it spins those wheels A LOT. It is all pleasant enough - and I got a bit sad on cue too - but so many episodes are just repeats of what we've already gone through. There's just not much here underneath the surface pleasures. And those are okay, but it does run way too long.

Ashes of Time
Redux version, as I couldn't find the original. I thought this was hot garbage. Mopey shit about losers whining about lost loves for 90 minutes. Get over yourselves. The non-linear narrative made it hard to follow, but I barely tried with all of the tryhard whiny bullshit.

Did I vote for these already? It's been such a hectic time in my life recently that it feels like it's been over 2 months since the noms were announced. I honestly don't remember if I voted. Let me know. If I didn't, I'll be sure to fill up the ballot and send it at some point today.

I'm pretty sure I voted but I always forget too. Would it be possible going forward to list the voters like we do for the nominations?
